This coming season's squad build up reminds me of Arthur Cox's team building in prep for the 1979/80 season. Alan Birch, Ridley, Bill Green, John Turner, followed by Phil Bonnyman, John Stirk,Crawford etc all ready to challenge for promotion to the old League 2 (Championship). What a team Cox built played some of the best football ever witnessed at Saltergate. As it was, it wasn't meant to be back then....this season we have the backing to go one better and do it. We're in for an exciting season!
Now that brought back some memories. I was in the Youth Team and Reserves at that time and spent lots of time round that group.
Cox was an absolute top bloke to work around he was incredibly inspirational similar to Cookie today. I was lucky enough to be given an old pair of his boots he was that kind of guy, total legend. -

In some ways the gk is the important position in the team, certainly if you have a dodgy keeper, but Boot isn’t dodgy - at least not consistently enough to be a problem. Nowhere near the best we have had but nowhere near the worst. Consequently there are currently more important positions to strengthen.
Boot is a good keeper, but as you state he is nowhere near the best. That’s exactly the reason we are looking to strengthen. Personally I like the statement of intent, building a team with a strong keeper is crucial. All that remains now is to see if he is as good as we all hope!! -

The only thing for me that's been a disaster has been the massive injury list. It's been a good 1st season back in the Efl, We have seen some good performances showing what we could do with a bit more consistency and belief. Thankfully we dont see many disastrous performances like yesterday, itvwas shocking. Cook and the Kirk's have to be tough and get rid of the deadwood, they have been very loyal to last years squad who have done the club proud.we have an amazing fan base which will get even stronger under the present regime. Thank you PC and the Kirk's for making us proud to be Spireites once again. Still looking forward to seeing the final 6 games and hopefully see us break the 70pts mark, which would be a great achievement in our 1st season back, at the start of the season I said we would finish 10th but who knows, we may even finish higher. BELIEVE. COYB.

Once a spireite always a spireite. Dad first took me in the 1969, he’d been going since he was a boy. All my family are spireites period. Family, Community, Country. We ignore this at our peril.
It’s in the blood, passion pure passion.
