To the best of my knowledge 18th October 1967 for the official opening of the floodlights against Sheffield Wednesday with Sir Stanley Rouse in attendance.
Travelled with a number of people on here over the years, car in 70's with mates and 90's when our children were young and going with me. Club coaches, SIFA for 9 years, Blue Stoops and for the last 16 years The Bridge Inn and now The Barrel Inn Travel as an organiser.A few memorable trips with The Peacock organised by the late Rob Wilmot and the special trains of course. -

Playing Walsall Saturday brings back memories of another irritant Alan Buckley. Born in scabland but had the brains not to play for them, but harassed us,with both Walsall and Grimsby.
Hi Mick, I remember going in the car around 1976 with Mick Bamford who is sadly no longer with us, Lindave, Steve Foyster who I worked with and Glyn McEnzie I think. Anyway, walking to the ground we saw Alan Buckley and Mick shouted "you'll not score today Alan". He replied "it'll be news if I don't" and, lo and behold he scored 2 in the last few minutes to earn them a 2-2 draw. I think that Steve Cammack might have scored a screamer for us. Funnily enough I saw Steve Cammack in Boza last year and had a good chat with him.
It was a rough place Fellows Park and there was a big Walsall fan there who had "I hate me Mam" tattooed on his forehead. Somehow we escaped unscathed! -

Hi Andy, you're right and there was another thread detailing the figures, it won't change in the near future and, if it needs to eventually, we'll have more important things to worry/talk about, cheers Paul. -

I had an interesting night at an amazing game sat next to Chris Morgan and his friend/colleague who were monitoring Max Thompson and the Doncaster centre half for the agency they work for; I think that the Doncaster player may be a Newcastle player as well.
I tried not to bother them much but they were very approachable. At 4-1 I asked how the centre half was doing and he said alright until the fourth goal. He said that they're young but have to learn quick otherwise they'll never play above this level. He then pushed into me with his shoulder and said that the defender should have have felt where our player was and stopped him getting into position with upper body strength without committing a foul, he still looks fit and powerful btw!
It added to a brilliant evening and I think that he was just as much taken aback at Max Thompson's triple save as everyone else.
Walsall should now be very interesting, here's hoping. -
