There was a poem doing the rounds at the time, if only it could be found.

One extract I've vague recollections of :-
Armfield was left without any power
As Wilson sped down the wing like a jet.
And crossing for Hollet to rise as high as the tower.
And nod it straight into the net.

    Or something like that.

There was another verse about a "golf ball landing at the kop end".

My Dad worked at Glapwell pit at the time and he got it from work. I don't know whether it was written by someone who also worked there, the copy I have is unsigned.
As someone has mentioned, is is a parody of the Lion and our Albert.

    At Blackpool by the Sea

The Town netted first with a header
It could be described as a gem
But nobody from Town started cheering
Young Neale had scored one for them

A golf ball landed at Kop end
The referee then told the crowd
You all know the rules about football
    And strictly no golfing allowed

    Blackpools defence started cracking
And Wilson had most of the play
Armfield complained that his leg hurt
And decided to call it a day

The substitute came on the field now
And thought he fancied his chance
But Wilson and his type of football
Proceeded to lead him a dance

The Town scored a goal as expected
It came from the wing like a jet
And Hollet rose high as the tower
And nodded it straight in the net

The roar in the stands was terrific
At what the Town had just done
    And Mr and Mrs Ramsbottom
Was cheering with Albert their son

The referee then blew his whistle
Which meant that the game was half through
    Blackpool was looking quite worried
Directors in the board room were too

The second half was all Blackpool's
On this we all must agree
But if Town had took all their chances
They might have scored two or three

The Seasiders turned out worthy winners
Mr Mortensons face lost its frown
They'll meet some good teams in their cup run
But none as good as the Town
