cook made reference tonight to us passing without penetration, a lesson not learnt from leg one and it's not the first time i've heard him say it this season, many assume the team are playing to an instruction of just passing for the sake of it, i get the feeling this is not quite the picture and there is a realisation that what he really wants isn't (quite) being delivered. cook also said tonight no point in over analysing, tonight maybe not but for us fans we have a summer to discuss this point and as we watch the retained list and recruitment come in i am confident cook will address this, what do we anticpate?

I suspect you may be right. Passing it from defence to wing to midfield then back to defence, and repeat repeat. Teams are happy to sit in and watch. Cook can see that and is as frustrated as us. Maybe that's why we haven't seen as much of Oldaker of late and he plays Metcalfe who wants to get forward. Whatever, I trust PC to sort it next season and we can enjoy summer having exceeded our expectations this year.

The idea is to create the overload on the opposite side however that can’t happen if it’s not quick enough.

I think that Metcalfe deserves a big thank you from us for applying himself to the cause so well. He has shown real commitment during his time here and he has come on in leaps ans bounds. Hope we might see you back in a blue shirt one day soon.

Watching him last night showed how much he has come on. If things go well for him he could have a very decent career at a higher level than ours. And he looks like he has really bought into it this season. Top lad.

He made a point of walking around to all 4 stands after we lost 2-0 last week and was beating the badge on his shirt. Hope we can get him for another year but yeah, assume Everton will want him playing up a league.

We got him on loan when Dyche was Everton boss, now that Moyes is back in there he may want to assess him for the Everton squad for next season.

tricky one for everton, as far as i know this is metcalfe's first taste of senior football and he's 20 years old now. we have shown we are willing to play him, he's jumped ahead of oldaker in the pecking order and at times started ahead of naylor and fleck in that role, so for everton they'd have to be sure that sending him to league one for instance he's going to get game time, doesn't always work out (see markandy and berry for instance), is he ready to play a part in everton's first team? i seriously doubt it, that is some step up for a lad who has played half a season at league 2 level.
