Given how we played against them up here, I wasn't expecting us to go there and do enough to get back in the game. They are a better side and we don't have enough in our locker to trouble them, not to that extent anyway.
If the aim for next season is high-tempo, possession football with the ultimate objective of improving on this season, it should be an interesting summer.

I think we need some younger legs, more physicality, midfielders and a right back who can gamble and run beyond the striker and someone who is prepared to have a shot from distance

We need pace in all the key positions and certainly some height in CM. If you want that from a RB, you must also want it from a LB too (which we don't currently have).

Agreed , we let the game pass us by last Sunday a little but I felt we gave it a good go last night , their goals last night came from us pushing on late on so have no real issue with it. We just didn’t have enough in the end and Walsall deserved to go through. No shame in it at all.
I’ve got to say I’m shocked at the level of toxicity from some of our fanbase this season. We all have a moan after the occasional defeat , I did last Sunday (it was a frustrating afternoon) but why do people have to go too deep into it and act like entitled brats? Some seem to revel in our bad days. It’s very bizarre. Things could have been different this season of course , we’ve had to go through some tough periods but all in all it’s been a quite enjoyable first season back in the league and I’d say getting into the play offs is an acceptable achievement. We’ve got great owners who want nothing but the best for us and a quality management team who’s track record speaks for itself and they’ll get it right , the future’s bright and it’s about time the wet wipes got behind them and stopped throwing hissy fits after every bit of adversity we face.

Progression and success doesn't exist in their lives so they are unable to recognise and appreciate what it is.
I'm a bit disappointed this morning because it feels like we've both underachieved and overachieved, if that's possible. Underachieved because I thought we should have done better in the play offs but overachieved by getting in them given the season we've had in terms of injuries.
If anyone needs a reminder of how far our club has come under the stewardship of the Kirks and Paul Cook, they shouldn't need to delve too far into the club's recent history to find out.
Up the Blues and enjoy the summer.

The only thing they could/should have differently is had a steward assigned to each of our players. Beyond that, if people want to get on the pitch they will.

Between our early goal there in the league, and the late one last night, how many goalless minutes elapsed? A hell of a lot of football. I would have liked to win last night and get through but I'm genuinely not that fussed.

If you’re talking about how we play, we will be playing exactly the same way under Cookie next season, just with better players

Agree again. When it turned out to be Walsall we faced I felt we had a really good chance to get to Wembley , I appreciate they’d had the better of it over the 2 games previous and they were the best team to come here this season when we managed to get a draw but considering what they’d done in the second half of the season and then dropping out the autos with about 30 seconds of the season to go, I just thought if we put it on them and got a goal they’d crumble but it never really came . The penalty was the turning point for me. Credit to them , they’ve had major disappointment over the last few months but they were solid when they needed to be. It is what it is tho. It’s done. Coyb.

You were complaining about this the season before we won the National League. We then signed better players, played exactly the same and pissed the league. What will you say if we do the same thing next season?

Yep, it's been enjoyable watching the evolution.
The key moment was surely Metcalfe's disallowed goal. Real time in the Lounge, I don't think anybody spotted a foul, although there wasn't any real protest from the player afterwards.
I think, with hindsight, I'd have to agree with Bonnyman on another thread. We picked the wrong team. No speed, penetration, or creation from our '3' of Dobra, Banks, Naylor. Nobody grasping the 'number 10' role and getting us playing around their box, and wide men ineffective. Banks, bless him, didn't touch the ball for 15 minutes and looked like a fish outta watter.
And Pepple unable to master all aspects of the lone striker role. Grigg shouldn't have been rotored out for such a big game, and where was Madden?

I tend to agree that the penalty gift was the turning point in the tie as we were in control until then. It led to us losing our way whilst it gave them the confidence they needed. The first goal was of importance in both games. They got it we didn’t.
In the face of an injury crisis the likes of which I have never known before we have done very well in our first year back in the EFL. Also, we should have learned a few lessons as well as what is needed to be more competitive going forward.
It’s up to Cook & Co now to address the issues and move us forward. We will all have our ideas as to what is needed but it’s the management who will make the decisions. There’s going to be “hellos” and “goodbyes”. Some we will agree with some we won’t. Let’s hope they get it right and we continue with the progress made so far.

I didn't celebrate it as I noticed the ref but I'm not sure what the foul was. Sparkes should have played. That volley he pinged that smacked their player would have broken the net.
