It’s extremely difficult to play against a team who drop back so deep, glad we don’t play like that because if we did I would probably not go.
For all the master tacticians who promoted gung ho from the start, they scored when we went that way which isn’t unsurprising.
After all the injuries etc this season it was probably two games too far but we still maintained our upwards progression. That’s four seasons where we have been champions or involved in playoffs, a record many teams would be proud of, I await next season with a positive outlook.

2025 version of a Johnny no goals side. Effective, efficient but not pleasing in the eye
A new hope.

Nobody promoted 'gung ho'; that's just your interpretation. You need to have a word with the Bradford manager; they played a gung ho 3-4-2-1 👍🏻 and went up automatically.

Problem is though that we allowed that to happen by just passing across the back 4/5, giving them time to defend deep and in numbers. There was no pace to our play at all. As I’ve said, we made this tie far far too easy for them with our tactics.

There is a thread titled "shite of bust', sounds a bit like 'gang ho' by another name

Seen plenty of that kind of stuff in the last couple of days.

Yup, as me and my daughter walked out of the away end at Donny after a 3-0 win in front of 3000 Town, I said to her "that was wank".

And when we were 4-0 up at Crewe after 30 minutes I put my next door neighbour's front window in shouting "this is wank"

We had a couple of decent performances when we got relegated to the national league. We were still wank.

Only one team out there playing football. Unfortunately they were playing it in the wrong parts of the pitch.

Similar scenes to the Preston game 10 years ago although Evatt did actually get assaulted in that game

To put things into perspective we came up from the NL, signed a few but largely had the same squad

Unprecedented injuries and still managed to finish in the play offs

The yellow stain no their first season back finished 11th
A new hope.

How predictable.

The predictable characters spending yet another thread peddling their all too predictable sneers.

Pathetic.

Because here's the bottom line - if some magic genie emerging from a rubbed beer bottle had offered each and every one of us a play off defeat last August, we'd have embraced it with air punching, 'Yesssss! Cumaaaan! Get in there!!!' declaring glee.

And that's exactly what the Paul Cook they're falling over themselves to discredit has delivered.

Despite having to all but rebuild his squad after an Xmas when we were literally down to our last eleven fit players.

What we've witnessed tonight was exactly what we've witnessed over the last four seasons; an outfit setting themselves to stop us - at home, by the way - yet us lacking the quality to break them down.

It happened in non league. Until Cook signed the quality to overcome. It's now happened in our first season back in the EFL. Until Cook spends this summer signing the quality to overcome.

Walsall were the better side over forty eight games.

Enjoy Wembley.

But this was merely a stepping stone for Chesterfield FC...

paul cook is a class act, i am glad he is the manager and he represents our club so well, we lost a play off semi final that we never looked like reaching a couple of months ago, cook will get us to league 1 (our rightful home in the pyramid in my opinion) it may take a season or 2 but it will happen.

Just home. We played ok for the most part but too predictable and they were quite happy to watch us in front of them. Never mind, hopefully Wimbledon win tomorrow and beat them at Wembley and we can play them again in August with half a new side.

I think not playing Sparkes tonight was a mistake. But never mind. I'll be lumping on promotion next season assuming the required player movements.

I think we've had a good season on the whole
Never good to deal with defeat but we have it a real go so no complaints
I understand the fans calling for a big reset for next season but when you consider we only finished 8 or 9 points from the auto's we only need to be more ruthless against the teams that we finished above to make the difference

I was proud to be a Spireite last night when the final whistle went. It could have turned very nasty on the pitch if our fans had wanted it.instead 90% of our fans stood and applauded the team off singing loud and proud. The result was disappointing, the players gave their all but were not quite good enough on the night. We deserved a draw. We were never going to score enough goals once Grigg didnt start. Thanks to Cooky and Webby, I have really enjoyed the season despite the injury jinx. Praise to the travelling fans who have backed the Team throughout without any sign of trouble. The home support again has been amazing. Cant wait for the new season.
