Despite the goals for, we are hardly great entertainers

Oh well , I remember the bottles being flung over into the away end during the 2-2

Now I know possession based football is a little out of vogue but we have one of the highest xG's, shots on target, shots off target, so what is your criteria for entertainment value?

Mansfield a point in question, really.

Take Aden Flint for example. Clough spoke about him earlier this season in that he was outstanding for them in L2 last season, cleaned up at their awards night, L2 team of the year but at the stage of his career, L1 was a bit much.

Much quicker and powerful players that his 35 year old body struggled with. He was subbed at Orient after half an hour cos he couldn’t cope with the pace.

He had an early season injury but regained fitness but ultimately the step up in quality was too much.

Is Markanday another example? I’ve no idea what’s going on with him there but he was outstanding for us and displaying huge signs of L2 team of the year but is a frequent sub at Orient.

As good as Orient look, they lost 16 times last year so plenty of sides turned them over.

Would we?

Who knows, probably on our day but you are comparing teams that are 25 places apart in the EFL. The point I made

I watched Orient three times before they went on that run and they looked pretty dogshite

The criteria is that James Rowe must be in charge. If he was in charge and we had one of the highest xG's plus a high number of shots on and off target then we'd be the most thrilling team since prime Barca.

Shoooooot - Oh we already do!

What about penalty area entries, Rowe's favourite statistic. Perhaps S&D can fill us in on those.

The case of Markanday is a perplexing one for me. He was too good for us, not good enough for Blackburn Rovers, and bit part player at Orient. So, he comes to Chesterfield FC and plays his heart out, scores some excellent goals, assists made for others whilst becoming a favourite of many supporters. Are there other factors in play 🤔. Different players react to different managerial styles and Paul Cook tends to get the best out of players or they don't reign long.
It wouldn't surprise me if Markanday came back here for next season, and it would certainly please most on here if he did so.

I was thinking exactly the same thing last night watching that game.
Paul Cook is an excellent man manager who does seem to get the best out of players…good example is Quigley…effective here from previous management, went & done absolutely zero!! Look how Grimes has improved, Mandeville another one.
Markanday would be an excellent statement if we did sign him

Don't forget Markanday started really well at Orient then seemed to drop out of favour. I have no idea why he dropped out of course but He's certainly good enough for that level.

Markanday was deemed good enough to convince Blackburn to spend a few bob for the Championship. Didn’t work out.

Markanday was deemed good enough to be better than L2 so moved on to Orient in L1. Hasn’t necessarily worked out.

Markanday had some excellent games for us a scored some goals, but in certain games he did go missing too.

For me, he looked to be a better winger than Duffy has so far with a better work ethic. Duffy has disappointed so far but I think there is a player in there. Similarly, Olakigbe, who has had good spells and not so good but I will say even when things aren’t going his way he doesn’t hide.

I would welcome Dilan back but I also have my eye on the things I’ve witnessed this season which a number of teams have and we lack - height and physicality as well as pace.

Yes mate, getting the best from players or anyone really, is an art in itself.
You're right with the players mentioned, and you can add to that list, Tyrone Williams, Ash Palmer, James Berry and Ryan Boot. Cook and his staff, know their stuff, but they also know their players capabilities better than the players themselves. Mandy must have thought his manager was mad when he told him he was playing right back for the first time.

Crazy thing is it wasn’t that entertaining under Rowe was it. We were winning of course but so are we under cook(again) so I’m not sure what people want.

If Markanday is only good enough to be a squad player for Orient then it is arguable that his next move should be to a L2 or lower L1 club.

Wellen suggested the reason Markanday was first dropped was because of his energy levels weren't what was required. Given the debate about the difference between L2 and L1 then perhaps that wasn't just a dig as it appeared at the time.

I was looking for a thread about how we couldn't possibly compete with these two teams - but there isn't one

There is a Wycombe player with a set of tattoos that none of our players could match, but that is about it.

It’s crap as was the first leg. More yellow cards (1) than shots on target so far.

Yet, another ex-player who fared really well in the first half of the season in L2 with 10 goals and 4 assists can’t even make the bench in L1.

Coincidence, maybe?

No coincidence, he looked disinterested and a liability for weeks before his transfer, signed by god knows who with a host of others at Wycombe, never featured and has perhaps disappeared up his own ass

None of which explains the skill and entertainment on display at The Valley. Have to say it has improved in the last ten minutes, we might have a shot soon.
