Just read that Forest player Awoniyi is having hospital treatment for a serious abdominal injury caused when he collided with a goalpost in the Forest v Leicester game. It's obvious from seeing the highlights, that the serious injury only happened because of the ridiculous length of time the lino took to flag the move offside, with this daft rule about letting play carry on instead of stopping it immediately. It will be interesting to see if this incident causes any action to be taken against linos following such events.

It happened in the first season they applied the rules when Van Dijk was taken out by Pickford he was out for months nothing was done .Maybe they should sue the F.A for medical treatment but it won't happen.

The lad has had to be put into a Medically induced Coma! It was always an unbelievably stupid rule but that is modern football. Made worse and worse by men in suits.

Problem being is i dont think its an FA law but an IFAB one to allow for VAR. They let it play out so that if a goal occurs then they go back and check knowing the goal can be disallowed easily enough. What cant happen is they stop play by flagging, but on checking the call was incorrect and they were onside but by that point the chance of scoring has gone. Now this is fine in games where VAR is in use although i still think that if its clear they should just flag but what is nonsense is the waiting to flag in clear situations at levels where VAR isnt in use so there is no benefit to letting it play out when its clear to all someone is offside.

Action against the linesman? For following instructions? Why? How? etc

Late flags are often a daft thing to see and I can only get the case for them if there is VAR in effect, but it's actually just letting play proceed as it would be in any situation, and injuries do occur in football.
These go to eleven.

Isn't the FA law that a player needs to be interfering with play and it was interpreted as a player attempting to play the ball and that rule/interpretation has been around well before VAR. You see it at our level all the time. If a through ball catches a player in an offside if he plays it is offside, if he doesn't play continues.

I think that sometimes gets confused with the protocol surrounding VAR where the officials are instructed not get involved in tight offsides and wait for VAR.
Accentuate th Positive, eliminate the negative

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there.

Most games are not played under VAR rules so why apply them in games below that level?

I think its a bit of everything to be honest at times with this waiting to see if a player gets involved although it annoys me when you see a guy blatantly chasing a ball but they wait until he's touched it 30yds later before putting the flag up...surely the act of chasing the ball is interfering. I still think there are times in our games where they seem to let it play through when they could easily put the flag up and cause any issues that could come from playing on. I also dont think it helps officials at times, it paints them in a bad light at times and gets people on their backs which isnt needed.

I really do hope he makes a full recovery.
