They aren't medically qualified though and understandably cannot risk being the ref who waves away the medical treatment for a player who then drops down dead (exaggerated of course but could happen).

The 4th official stands close to both teams benches. Is it too much to ask that he observes what goes on there?

After all they appear to be very adept at getting Cookie booked.

Playing devils advocate, and mainly to those who claim PC wouldn’t entertain such underhand tactics to gain advantage;

I distinctly recall a game last season where we were winning late on but under severe pressure for the final few mins and as Tyrer was preparing to take a goal kick, cookie was screaming at him to take a booking and was waving an imaginary card at him. He didn’t, and took a normal speed goal kick only to then receive a verbal tirade from Cookie.

Every team do these types of things and unfortunately if you’re not doing it, your at a distinct disadvantage in the modern game, sad but true.

I've said for months that blatant time wasting by keepers should mean that his team must stand on the centre circle to stop them approaching their managerial team for tactical instructions.

I do think yesterday was about that at all, I think that Sadler knew we’d move the ball and given their high intense pressing tactic they’d get tired, particularly in that heat. I think the orchestrated time outs were to allow their players to get their breath back, and to interrupt any momentum we were trying to get.
It also succeeded in stopping the home crowd getting behind the team and moaning at the keeper/ref.

If they see/hear any encouragement to feign injury etc they should be taking action.

There was an additional official yesterday, classed as a reserve assistant.

It's worrying how many folk don't have the ability to maintain good time management

Edit

Just noticed Matt (the magpie)Corlett has managed to get on Notts 2nd leg at Wimbledon, 4th official

An in play clock stopped and started by the 4th official … he’d stop it when the balls out of play, basically when the balls off the pitch before a throw in and corners, for player injuries and for substitutions…. That would sort it.. and result in a perfect 90 mins of match play.

It would have to be 60/70 minutes game time, to ensure the match is finished by 5.00 ish. Otherwise 3.00 kick offs wouldn’t finish until gone 6.00.

Does that reveal how short changed we are becoming. Can season tickets be offered a third cheaper to reflect the decreasing time of entertainment.

Found an interesting article on the BBC website, 21 December 2023, stating how the ‘new true additional added time rules’ were increasing the time the ball was in play - L1 games up from 50 minutes average to 55 minutes. And how successful the new rules had been……
Wonder what the ball in play time is now?

There's never been 90 minutes of actual play. Is there less now than 30/40 years ago? Probably, but there won't be huge amounts in it.

There definitely wasn't the desire to be involved in a game of football and not to play the game.

Alleged coaches have a lot to answer for

My take on this is that its a poor spectacle for those who pay to watch a football match, most keepers do it because they are instructed to do so is my guess. Tyrer did it a few times when playing for us and it used to wind me up just the same as if an opposing keeper did it. In my opinion, they do it for two reasons, to kill the momentum of the opposing team and to waste time. Wasting time doesn't really work though as the ref just adds it on at the end. To stop it from happening all the ref has to do is call the physio on the pitch then like an outfield player the keeper goes off but for a minimum of 2 mins or he is substituted. That would stop it.

this saying that the referee simply adds time on at the end is in most cases simply not true

take yesterday for example he added 5 minutes to the end of the second half which was totally inadequete to say the least

i think the referee is supposed to add 30 seconds to the time for each sub so ten subs in the second half is 5 minutes to start with lol

their prancing show pony in goal hurt his finger nails at least twice in the second half staying down for at 3 minutes on one occasion taking as much heat out of our pressure for as long as the weak referee allowed so i reckon at least 10 minutes should have been added to the end of the second half

and adding time on to the end of the match no matter how long cannot replace that moment in the half when the player now usually the keeper goes down to stop any momentum the opposition must have been gaining for the player to go down in the first place

It kills the atmosphere that the home crowd is trying to build at that moment and when the match eventually starts again the crowd is normally silent so job done as far as the cheating player is concerned

The 5 minutes added on in the second half was scandalous. Just shows no logic goes into determining it whatsoever

I don't understand how people are upset by this or other shithousery tactics.

We do it ! I would expect us to do it to win a game. We can't moan when others do it !!!!

Cookie is now a simple notch on most refs booking list by the looks of it

its as though the referee says to the 4th official before that match now if that man in the chesterfield dug out says anything nasty to you tell me and i will come marching over and book him without any warning

Simples

and do not anyone tell me that the officials do not talk amongst themselves and do not come to matches with pre conceived ideas on what might happen regarding action around the technical areas

Agreed its as though the referee took the easy option of not adding more time at the end of the match so as to duck out of having to make more possibly big decisions when the pressure was really on

How did we do it against Accrington? By inviting them to hit the woodwork twice?
