Am I the only one not even to think about the ref before a game? Some people like to make a fuss before it’s even started. Yes referees can occasionally cost you a game but if you play well through it shouldn’t make much difference.

Offhand I couldn't name one referee throughout all 5 divisions. I have never had an interest in any of them since Ellery. I never read up on the ref's details a good ref is one that you don't notice during a game.for the life of me I can't understand why we need a 4th official, they are generally as crap as the ref and it just leaves plenty of room for managers to get booked or sent off havingv2 officials to moan at.

It was, or certainly appeared to be, the fourth official that alerted the ref who then made the decision to send the Carlisle player off the other week.

A decision on an incident that looked inconspicuous in real time from the East stand but totally correct when watched back on the highlights.

Without the fourth official the Carlisle player would have stayed on the pitch and we’d then be bemoaning the poor officials for not sending him off.

Bit like Hughes was for missing what he deemed a straight red by Banks.

There's not a chance Cook would ever initiate something like that is there?

No way, he prefers to share his assessment of the ref's shortcoming live and in person from the touchline on match days

I wonder how much Cook has paid in fines this season...

Dobra and Banks back available for tomorrow?

I'm 100% starting Gordon over Aruajo. Perhaps unchanged other than that. Colclough or Duffy may be under consideration.

Forget both then. Hopefully back for the play-offs (we can hope).

Posted this on the score prediction thread but I know not everyone goes on there so thought it would be worth sharing here on the matchday thread. For those of us thinking we could really do with a thumping win today to improve our goal difference over County who we can still potentially catch (and wouldn't that be sweet? sneaking in at their expense), I crunched a few numbers and looked at different scenarios, so I'll just repost here:

Was looking at this the other day, and for us to catch County we need them to lose one and draw one at best. Their goal difference is currently plus 3 over ours (+18 to our plus +15)but we’ve scored 4 more (68 to their 64).

Thus a draw and a loss by only one goal for County (reducing their goal difference by 1,)would mean we need wins only 1-0 (or 2-1, 3-2 etc) and 2-0 (3-1 etc) to overturn their plus 3.

In actual fact, the likelihood is that 2 x 1-0 wins would actually be enough for us to go above them on goals scored as we are current + 4 over them, unless their loss and defeat were very high scoring affairs..

So let’s say County draw 2-2 with Harrogate today and lose 3-2 to Donny next Saturday, and we win both our remaining games 1-0, that would still mean us finishing higher. We’d both finish on 70 points and the goal difference/average would look like this:

Town = scored 70, against 53 (+ 17)
County = scored 68, conceded 51 (+17)

And we finish higher on goals scored. But let’s just win the 2 games by 3 goals over all to be certain if county slip to a draw and a loss.

Fascinating stuff eh? You’re all impressed I can tell

Hey, I don't waste my Saturday mornings ya know 😂

As far as catching County is concerned yes. We are 1, 2 and 3 points behind Salford, Colchester and Grimsby respectively, with much better goal difference than all of them. So even losing today (god forbid) could take it to the final Saturday as long as Grimsby don’t at least draw today, and Salford and Colchester draw with each other.

But let’s not go there hey, let’s get the win and go into next Saturday with it hopefully looking more probable than possible if other results go our way today. 😁

Might be reverse psychology but I wouldn’t put it past Salford creeping in 7th place.

Anyone know what the odds or % chance of us making play offs are? Must be very slim, would have thought, cos depending on other results.

Best price is 9/2 which I feel is reasonably good value. If we win today (which is a massive odds on price) that could be 6/4 at 5 o'clock.

Is that similar to a 1 in 4 or 25% chance of doing it?

Pretty sloppy job you're doing by not taking Wimbledon into consideration. Out of form, two tough fixtures and a a current goal diff of 7 over us. Us winning by single goal margins and them losing by single goal margins that will take care of 4 of the 7. A sizeable win for us and/or a sizeable defeat for them and we could overhaul them as well.

6/10

I may be eating my words after the early kick offs, but I think Wimbledon will be the one’s to catch. If Grimsby need a win on the final day then I can see them turning over the Wombles - leaving them on the same points as us.
Worst case scenario would be both only needing a draw on the final day… no chance we’ll make it if that’s the case.

Big day today! COYB!

Overhauling 6 points and 7 goals in 2 games, not impossible but I’ll have a gallon of what you’ve been drinking.

You’ve also overlooked Walsall losing their last 2 and getting a 5 point deduction for some misdemeanour so we could top them as well.

3/10 😁

Two immediately above us playing each other helps.

Win today and we go above one of them with a win either way or both if they draw due to our GD.

Notts at Harrogate is big. They’re wobbling big time and lose today means they’ll need a result against Donny last game.
