100% agree with you about being in it for success. However, success is relative as well as absolute. Also, I'd far sooner we achieve long-term success through having invested in the Academy, than through short-term big money signings. In truth, we're both right, and both wrong. It's about finding the right balance. One begats the other.

After several decades of letting my heart rule my head with CFC,my head is in total agreement with your sentiments regarding a sustainable club,the only thing I struggle with is 'is it possible to run a successful self sustained football club'?Can successful and self sustained go hand in hand with modern football?

They were free transfers.

It’s about the fee not the players age isn’t it

Fee is irrelevant, it’s total cost. These are just guesses but showing you the idea.

Pearce = 150k transfer fee plus 3 years at 3k a week = total cost £618k
Grigg = 0k (which he wasn’t) plus 3 years at 4k rumoured a week = £624k

Isn’t the problem with Academy players that another club can come along and pluck the the better ones for next to nothing?
Yet without player sales I can’t see how a club below the Premier League can be sustainable. It’s about 3 or 4 of the 72 isnt it that have their head above the water.

Don’t forgot the signing on fee, payable in equal instalments at the start of each season and any cost of living increase each season, not to mention promotion increase Grigg was entitled to.

You realise you’re agreeing with me?

The fee can be used to sign better players on higher wages if they are free transfers?
A new hope.

That's why it helps me that I'm more of a relative success man, than an absolutist.

How long do you think it will be before we get news on the players in contract negotiations

Don’t offers have to be valid for a minimum length, 28days rings a bell?

Assume players and management will be on holiday so could be mid June by the time any decisions are made either way. (Unless, like Banks any player agrees a better deal elsewhere).

Does it open for clubs at our level yet?
Sure I saw something that said ours doesn’t open till the 16th June, as the first one that’s opened was just for those clubs competing in club World Cup?

Could be wrong though.

It was opened early to allow the club world cup teams to make moves but anyone is able to make transfers ahead of it closing for a bit then reopening.

my game is that I'm thinking we are minus 4 players who I reckon have floundered regularly in the 'penetrative' department - Banks, Jacobs, Oldaker, Metcalfe.

So that's where the greatest need is, not necessarily rectified in date order.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Couple of things we need to bring in, besides players, more imaginative throw ins and practice some dead ball moves.

Just looking at his X feed, it looks like Mike Jones is off the pay roll. He's taking about starting a new chapter. (Sorry if its already been mentioned)

For me, Mike Jones has been a big miss during his season long injury, so we need a younger version.
Good luck for the future Mike and thanks for your endeavours, and I always thought we played better with you on the pitch.
