I said not currently in the plans. If he proves he can overcome his fitness issues, that could change.

Give me another explanation as to why certain players wouldn’t have squad numbers and, in Coco’s case, why his number has been assigned elsewhere.

I wasn't referring to anyone other than Donacien. He must be 'in the plans' or he wouldn't be there.

Did anyone listen to the 5pm interview with John Croot and Neil Hornsby last night on 1866? Anything interesting I missed it.

He is. He’s wanting to do some of pre season without a contract to make sure his body can hold up. He’s holding off signing in good faith that if he does get injured, he isn’t costing the club weekly wages for the season. Rarity these days. Comes across like a top top bloke does JD.

That sound right and fits in with what I've heard about him.

Tbh if he was demanding a weekly wage with his injury record I don’t think he’d be anywhere near the club, so that doesn’t surprise me!

The term 'good faith' suggests we've offered him something at this stage regardless of his inury record.

So not a trialist. Some people add 2+2 and get an odd number.

I never said he was a trialist ffs. I said he was ‘essentially’ a trialist.

I’ll reword it, based on Ash’s input. So he’s training with the club in a bid to prove his fitness, before committing to a contract. So he’s with the club on a trial period, pending fitness. Sadly there’s not a snappier word for such a scenario.

Vast majority of this board, sadly.

Essentially we’ve offered him a contract. He’s said thank you, I’m wanting to do pre season and make sure my body feels right. If things go swimmingly he’ll sign. If not, he’ll step away and assess his options.

A fully fit JD, with a full pre season behind him will be an absolute monster at RB next season. All being well. Shecks as 2nd choice. VDC as 3rd choice and probably head out on loan. He’s on relatively low wages in comparison to majority of the squad.

If we sign this Lee Bonis fella, suspect we'll be trying to help him find a few home.

Surely we’re not daft enough to do that? Surely some kind of terms attached like ‘if you can prove your fitness’ etc however that may look?

From what I saw last year he was made of absolute glass. Every single game he played he was always down for a period of time ‘feeling something’ and then a lot of the time taken off at HT, and then missing the next game etc, before ultimately tearing his hamstring against Harrogate.

The level he’s played at speaks for itself and I would love for him to get back to fitness, but last season gives me major doubts. From what Ash has said though, nothing looks like it’ll be signed yet so that’s good enough for me for now.

Well he’s on the list of offered and Ash saying he’s got a deal on the table. If it wasn’t completely reliant on him playing there wouldn’t be an issue in signing now. Fully believe that with a pre season and some consistent games he would be one of the best RBs in the league. Oozes class

Of course the other scenario is that our offer and what he considers his worth to be, subject to a successful pre-season, are miles apart and therefore he wants to keep his options open (squeeze us for more money or look elsewhere).

If he was happy with the contract, he would have surely signed it and not run the risk of pre-season. I'm a bit too long in the tooth to believe that players have their (potential) employers best interests at heart!

Doesn’t matter if he’s not listed in the squad, we’ve to pay him what ever and if he’s happy with that then he’ll just run his deal out.
God I hate this league.

Try rewording it like this.
He's been offered a contract by the club. He's in PC's plans for the season.
The contract is on the table but he wants to prove to himself he is cabable of fulfilling that contract before he signs it.

So you could say that he’s put himself on trial?
