i strongly challenge the word disaster, Disaster would have been a quick return to NL football, with 6 games to go we have an outside chance of a play off spot, i'd say it's been a good return to league 2 with some agony and frustration of what we might have acheieved. we came into this season not really sure of what we might do. i don't see us getting across the line but feel we will have learned so much and know we have nothing to fear from this level. 15 changes? not sure we'll go that severe as that brings a high level of upheaval and i'll take a guess that if we do go 15 out/ 15 in that may take a considerable chunk of next season to get understanding at which point some posters on here may get impatient and say we made too many changes.

I wouldn’t say disaster. Given the budget I’d say disappointment. With hindsight recruitment could have been better and injuries have been unbelievable


I’d agree though a big clear out is needed, and I’d expect very few of those out of contract to be offered new deals.

Pretty much on the nail but the problem with large recruitment is it might not bring immediate results

You are right Rob not a disaster. Massively underachieved. Terrible recruitment combined with injuries has put paid to it. I expected top 7 as a minimum.

The only thing for me that's been a disaster has been the massive injury list. It's been a good 1st season back in the Efl, We have seen some good performances showing what we could do with a bit more consistency and belief. Thankfully we dont see many disastrous performances like yesterday, itvwas shocking. Cook and the Kirk's have to be tough and get rid of the deadwood, they have been very loyal to last years squad who have done the club proud.we have an amazing fan base which will get even stronger under the present regime. Thank you PC and the Kirk's for making us proud to be Spireites once again. Still looking forward to seeing the final 6 games and hopefully see us break the 70pts mark, which would be a great achievement in our 1st season back, at the start of the season I said we would finish 10th but who knows, we may even finish higher. BELIEVE. COYB.

If this season has been a disaster what would instant return to the NL have been?
I thought the bookies were wrong to make us favourites as I didn’t expect the top 3, however I did hope for the play offs, so barring a miracle it has been disappointing but to call it a disaster is totally ridiculous.
Without the injuries however who knows what could have been?

Disaster too strong. Disappointed certainly. Maybe a touch of arrogance perhaps thinking we would walk it. However when we look back at this season I will first and foremost think about injuries.

Good post. Tell you what though, I would be very nervous of signing a player with a history of injury next season after what we've been through.

In hindsight the disappointing dropped points at home against Swindon, Salford, Cheltenham way back at the beginning of the season did us in eventually. Three very poor sides that came for a point and we sat back, passed around with no real sense of going for more goals and let them nick an equaliser. It set the course for the season, teams closing us down early and going in the for the well accustomed “low block”. This is the lesson we need to learn.

Home form must be better. In the Sheridan and Cook Champions seasons we absolutely walloped sides that came here mostly to spoil, we must find a remedy for that next season.

Disappointed we didn’t make the playoffs, but it we get as close to 7th as possible lessons can be learned.

But, you are right, of course.

In reality, management needs to assess which players they consider should be part of their team and/or squad for next season. Clearly, those under contract will very likely still be with us unless we receive offers too good to turn down. That is the starting position.

Based on such an assessment it will be determined how many players should be recruited and in which positions in order to strengthen both the expected starting eleven and match day 18. Again, quite clearly some of that number are already on the books.

I struggle to see that there will be, or needs to be, anywhere near 15 new recruits. We will need back up players to the squad as this season has shown that injuries can decimate plans etc. However members of the current squad have shown that they are prepared to be on stand by and will not sulk or rock the boat if not first choice. That is essential for team spirit and a good team spirit is essential for success.

Took the words right out of my mouth 😍 I've really enjoyed the season. Got a couple of football buddies and we've done most of the away games (and all of the homes of course). I love it. My favourite purchase has been my Two Together Railcard: saves me and the one friend, neither of whom are old enough to qualify for a Senior Railcard (although we sometimes feel that we are 😬), a fortune.

Season ticket renewed. Looking forward to it already.
