For the next two games- against teams from Cumbria (although certain Barrow used to be in Lancashire).

Has this happened before? One for the statisticians maybe?

In 1955-6 we played Workington and Barrow in consecutive home games. Both are now in the modern county of Cumbria. In 1961-2 we played Barrow and Carlisle in consecutive matches twice.
It's nice to be able to Trust again.

In 1967 Tahn played Workington twice in 4 days
Not two Cumbrianclubs , granted … but nonetheless it could be said consecutive matches against Cumbrian opposition

We did the same in '70, but has it was the FAcup it's possibly stretching the original question a bit.

Edit:-

Also on the same footing Netherfield twice in 4 days '64

Off topic but when I think of Barrow I remember their fa cup replay held at Saltergate against Alfreton.
That was the fourth attempt to find a winner.
Not a great game.

Remember that time, wasn't it around Christmas time? Workington at bottom of table, we were doing quite well, but lost home game I think 1-3. The away game a couple of days later we managed a 0-0 draw if my memory serves. But I do seem to recall the frustration of Town fans that we lost to a bottom team. Sometimes we seem to repeat the feat sadly!

That’s correct. The Boxing Day attendance at Saltergate for the Workington game was over 17000!

It was hard to find anyone, in the lead up to the game, who said they werent going to the match.

It went down hill from that point, we'd a 100% home record, we then went 5 games without a home victory, there was a school of thought that argued it was due to the signing of Bill Currie and disrupting things.

Remember the myth [?] that developed that the Board didnt want promotion as we couldnt afford it?
I heard Phil Tooley say on the last 1866 podcast that it started from that match.

When I’d seen you had posted and the title of the thread I wrongly believed you had bought a round

At 1/5d a pint at the offy at the cricketers I may have been persuaded too.

The aforementioned Netherfield match was a disaster. My dad was taking me to the away, until the DT came out on Friday informing us that Netherfield wasn't a village t'other side of Nottingham but in Kendall. Disappointed at missing the first game I was going to make the replay. So I forced a controlled vomit at lunch time at school expecting to be told to go home
Unfortunately school insisted I was taken home Mum wasn't impressed and confined me to barracks. Made up for it though, not having missed a home cup game since (or away since'69 covid game excepted)

Wasnt Bill Currie signed from Mansfield, after he had been advised to retire on medical grounds?

Shafted by the Stain not unusual lol!
