What a small world Stainlessstephen. David Games was a teacher at my school in Cwmbran, South Wales in the 1970s. He didn't teach me, but his wife was a Geography teacher who attended an A Level field trip I was on. Mr Games was certainly a big unit, as I recall!

He was a big lad indeed - sadly passed away some years now. We also had Gareth Jones (I suspect a common name in Wales) who was Mr Games' partner in crime.

It really was rugby for breakfast, rugby for lunch, rugby for dinner and rugby for supper.

I used to go to watch Wednesday as a young kid as my Dad used to work weekends and my next door neighbor used to take me, I was always fascinated by the Kop when it didnt have a roof, it was very impressive when full.

The glory hunter fans are the ones that really hack me off, the ones that couldnt point to Manchester or Liverpool on a map, have no link to the city and on social media laud over everyone as they are somehow superior. Supporting your home town club gives you far more satisfaction when you win something, you can bump into old school friends that you havent seen in years and have a quick pint after without worrying about getting home. I went to Old Trafford once for free and either side of me were Japanese tourists who spent the entire game taking photos, I couldnt wait to leave.

One of my mates was a Town fan in the 70’s, early 80’s. Born and raised less than 50 yards from the Saltergate ground. He was even a ball boy there in the early 80’s. He, however, has been a Sheffield Utd fan for years now. If anyone remembers Ian who worked in the Salty Club for many years, big Town fan, now he’s a Wednesday fan and goes there. I just don’t get it.

Neither do I, it was a sudden change of allegiance. This coincided with Wednesday being in the top flight. When I asked him why his response was to see better quality opposition? Having said that he now been a Bowel for about 25 years.

My 7yr old daughter was collared as a Sunderland fan by my wife early on mainly because they did shirts that small so now goes to a fair few games up there with my wife and her dad but also now has a couple of town shirts, has an active interest in town wanting to know the scores etc but then also has a number of Coventry shirts due to a friend of ours buying them for her. Definitely cant be described as a glory hunting fan in any way with those three clubs!

Younger brother of one of the girls in the same team as my daughter often rolls up to their training and matches wearing any one of a number of kits ranging from overseas clubs to premier league clubs but then finally rocked up to training in full town kit last night.

Suspect the ease of getting cheap kits from the likes of DHGate etc makes it possible for kids to have loads of options, not sure parents can afford to be buying them all at £60\£70 a go.

Kids these days seem to have shirts of multiple clubs. My grandkids (8 and 5) will wear Chesterfield, West Ham, Man City, Real Madrid, Inter Miami, some saudi team....and the 2 year old wears Ipswich as they do a shirt that small! They love going to watch Chesterfield with their Dad and me, but still enjoy going to other grounds and teams so I dont think they are lifelong Spireites just yet....

My lad has loads of different shirts, mainly of European clubs. He buys them in bulk when we go on holiday. But there's only one club who he actually supports...

I think that's all part of growing up, I used to be the same and i've passed that down yo my lad who regularly runs around in Bologna, Lanzarote, Panathanikos etc kits from wherever i've been and brought him one back.

He's just getting into going to football with me (and playing as well) which is good to see. We've had 4 generations of us at games a couple of times this season which I'm secretly really proud of. Where my lad plays on Friday afternoons there's plenty of kids in Town kits, and the ones that aren't are generally in random ones like PSG, AC Milan etc rather than Sheff U/Wed/Liverpool etc which I guess is also a good thing

Once went to look at a job high up on the east coast of Scotland in the middle of no where, went into the site cabin and on the wall was "spireites" calendar. Turned out the site manager was a keen caravan user and went to Castleton a lot and ended up a Chesterfield Fan for life.

I brought my son up watching Town but he sadly started watching Newcastle with a few of his teenage mates when our manager Arthur Cox became manager there. The combination of mates, the Geordie passion, beer and days out in Newcastle were too much to resist. He became a season ticket holder, has the Newcastle badge tattooed on his arm, but never goes now and hasn't done for years. This is since fixtures became scattered randomly over the week instead of almost all games on Saturdays. Where did I go wrong ? He is still in the will.
