So many one on ones in a short period of time would suggest a lack of defender support? Not having a dig, just the way we play with not necessarily the quality of players needed to play that way.A needs must season, with the majority of our luck being bad.

builds huge confidence though when your keeper begins to win those 1 v1 battles consistently, they say a keeper can win you 10 points a season, 2 of our best keepers in recent memory mercer and lee were excellent in 1v1's.

Absolutely, and I honestly don't know how he has saved most of them, quality keeping obviously, I have stated on the relevant match day threads how vital his contributions have been. The only point I was making is that,as we all know,a ball over/through our cb's has been a problem for a few seasons.

hasn't it just, teams set up with such intent to expose this weakness, i'm just glad that at the moment at least Boot is doing his bit to nullify this threat.

Boot is not the returning player that’s made the biggest difference.

Palmer looks 5 years younger!

Palmers been faultless. I was worried by how often cook was mentioning ash palmer in his interviews as a returning player thinking he isn’t the answer, but he hasn’t put a foot wrong and been a key part of our improved form.

We have two CBs without pace so are likely to give a chance a game like that, as proved. I'm sure Cook would take that if that's all teams are restricted to from own play which has pretty much been the case. Boot's composure in those situations has been superb.

Another good performance today, he’s giving himself a serious chance of being number one next season.

Personally I think Cook will again be looking at another No1 for next season, maybe loan market again, but I think Boot should be a shoe in, he he, for at least another year, maybe reward him with 2 given his reliability when called upon here, on the No2 / stand in basis.

I'm not a fan of bringing in a young keeper on loan to be our no.1 who are unproven. Boot has always been my no.1 choice over Tyrer and Thommo, who are learning their trade. Over the years we have nurtured our own young keepers and got some decent money for them.

Think I’d agree with the 2 years you know, we’ve seen how difficult it is to get a reliable number 2 in the past. Even if we got to league one he’d be alright as a number 2 I reckon.

I think he waits for the attacker to take a touch before committing. He might be in trouble if the strike comes early. Wait for the ball to come to him rather than doing what tyrer did a couple of games in a row last season and attack the ball and miss the ball but not the player.

I suddenly don't feel so nervous when the opposition had a 1-on-1 when boot is in goal
Here we go again!

Boot is a sound keeper and deserves another contract, great as backup and when called upon puts in a performance.

I agree with the above poster that we need a second permanent keeper and not another loan. There are players in this league and the one below who are more than capable of improving us.

Could it be our improvement has been down to having a keeper in the nets, that the defence trust?
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

In my opinion, Ryan Boot is a decent keeper, and much improved on the keeper we brought in. The one thing he needs to improve on is his punching. As for releasing the ball early, we tend to pull everyone back when defending, so it isn't always feasible to release the ball early. Boot has to recognise when to release or when to hold the ball, but his teammates have to give him that opportunity.

The early ball doesn't have to go long.

The improvement is down to us having a settled starting 11 which includes Ryan, Banksy, Grimesy, Palmer/Ty, Mandy and Jenson starting ahead of DJ.

If our recruitment team find a top quality keeper available at the right price, then fair enough but otherwise I would be more than happy to see him as our number 1 next season. Either way he has deserved a contact.

Boot will be looking for a 2 year contract, and if we only offer him 1, he will be off as he will almost certainly get a 2 year deal somewhere.

It feels like a decision has been made along the lines of... we're better off having a Ryan Boot playing his own style, and sacrifice any potential upside of having a keeper playing higher up but reducing the downsides that come with that if you have a keeper not comfortable doing it. It feels like he's playing deeper and more comfortable blocking 1 on 1 rather than trying to rush out to intercept it.
