In the Humber estuary, both boats ablaze, this could be a massive environmental disaster for the area,.

But you've gotta ask, how?
It's not like they're small things or fast, yes it's a shipping lane, but radar guided and maybe even a lookout, ... who were the crew on on deck at the time, stevie wonder and ray Charles??

The tanker was at anchor in a nominated anchorage and would have been a sitting duck. By the time they recognised the other ship as a threat it would be minutes away and too late to start the engines and pull up the anchor. God knows what was happening on the other ship as it should have had an officer and helmsman/lookout on the bridge. Probably doesn't help having so few officers and crew on merchant ships these days

The freighter's captain will be adjudged to be completely to blame, unless he's had something go seriously wrong with his ship. There's some really dangerous stuff involved onboard both ships which could, not only be dangerous to those living close bye but also marine animals and seabirds.

Two points of concern:-
1/ Dishonorable company directors will be looking to see if they can use this as an excuse to profiteer by hiking prices.

2/Will it have an impact on the seals at Donna Nook?

I thought all ships over a certain size required Humber pilots as its a difficult estuary to navigate.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

No doubt to the first and hopefully not to the second.

From what I understand, the tanker was at anchor and the container ship was travelling from Grangemouth Scotland to Rotterdam, but my experience of seafaring is zero.

I assume it will be him who's been arrested then. Something very strange about the whole thing, but I suppose we'll have to wait for the powers that be to do their stuff. Speculation is never a good road to travel as it's unfair, so I'm not going to repeat anything I've heard. I'd think a ship is a little hard not to see especially when heading towards it at 18mph though.

The tanker was carrying jet fuel which could have been used by the US military.

I wonder who might conduct such a deniable act of hybrid aggression, if indeed it wasn't an accident?

I'm not one for conspiracies, but after listening to an experienced seaman discussing the collision, I find it hard to understand what went wrong was a pure accident. Certainly gross negligence, and I have a feeling that some are going to do lots of prison time.
If it was done on purpose, then, it must be a wake-up call to the chimp in the Whitehouse, who thinks Russia is a friend, but we're a long way off from proving anything yet.

The turn round time and short sea passage for these smaller container shops is ridiculous. It is no excuse but the same people on the bridge were likely working cargo a few hours earlier and while at sea it would there main chance for sleep. I suspect the bridge was short staffed and someone fell asleep. Crews would have been at least double the size a few decades ago and the bridge properly manned with someone on the helm when that close to the coast and passing through an anchorage.

Yeah, you're right mate 👍, I must apologise to all our brothers, wherever they may reside, jungle, bush or Tywcross. I don't even think Trump can play the piano, or likes PG Tips lol.

I never thought of that 🤔. Him and his mate, whose name sounds like a cheap aftershave are getting dafter by the minute.
