Scored 2 goals for Town , both at home v Blackpool and Southend.

Seem to remember him scoring at the baseball ground in a pre-season friendly when we used to contest the Derbyshire cup with them every pre-season, I would think 1988?

First game for me I think was 0-0 against Bristol Rovers at saltergate in the early 80?s. Vaguely seem to remember Bristol Rovers wearing orange.

Will have to look it up on some stats site and see if that is correct.

Edit looks like it was this one https://www.11v11.co...er-1982-138608/

Attendance 1995 - wow!

1963 York City , night match though would have been early kick off ! Also remember Dave Blakeys last game unless my memory is playing tricks played him up front for a while hoping he would score.
Used to stand with my Dad on the Compton street waving my scarf round when we scored , then later stood on the kop started at the back then when the surge happened finished at the front , happy days

First game - I haven't a clue about that or many subsequent games afterwards. My grandad used to lift me over the turnstiles at the Cross Street end of Saltergate at such a young age that I hardly remember much about anything. As I grew beyond the infant stage memories did begin to form but not many. I can only clearly remember Ray Middleton being the keeper so I can definitely say that I am one of the few who saw us play in what we now know as the Championship. Beyond the infant stage the brain was accumulating lifelong memories - eg coming home after the game, putting my boots on and being Dennis Westcott for the remaining daylight hours - he had just scored 4 against Mansfield - or am I mistaken in my old age about the score and who it was against?.

Anyway, thanks grandad.

There's only Azul and DIFH in your 'Div 2' club. Azul is that old he used to get a tram into town with a copy of the Athletic News.

Got it ! Our excellent history site tells me August 23 1952 Chesterfield 4 Mansfield Town 1 Westcott 4. 18,506 gate. That would be our first season after dropping down from the second level, and so far never to return. I would be 10 at the time.
My grandad used to tell me that he would be dead before we got back up -wise old man my grandad. He could have said " you will be as well ". It didn't matter - I ended up taking him to games instead of him taking me. Difficult to explain the lifelong emotional attachment to a football team to somebody who doesn't follow football. As they say - you can change your wife but you can't change your football team.

We are now going back to the 50s...

I have just purchased a 1958 Austin A35. Mid life crisis I guess.

When I've attended to the bit of fettling it needs, you may well see it round Chesterfield and for some of the away games, depending on who goes up and comes down.

I have christened the car "Jamie" (after of course you know how). Old, a bit slow, but totally dependable? And of course rusty...

But my Jamie has the reliance of a starting handle...

Are there any other forum members that have named a car after a player?

I bet the turning circle is a bit sharper than Jamie's though 😂.
