I think that was the year I got smacked in The Village

The walk back, where we on opposite sides of the dual carriageway?

Yes that sounds right. Police on horse backpack after game and seem to remember attempts to drag one of them off as he was swinging at anything that moved. During game they set fire to a town scarf tied to a crush barrier in that terracing that used to be below the west stand seats just away to our left. This resulted in some town jumping the little wall at the front of quarry lane and getting into em.

Barmy days!

Surely Nigel has got to be on shaky ground now.

It's certainly not pressure because he was same when he was a player, and let's face it, he was an excellent player who rarely had a bad game. He'd make a brilliant stand up comedian with that deadpan face.

Our games against them have all been barmy days. I can only recall the Clucas winning goal where they came out on top, that?s some time ago.
The winner straight from the corner, Jack?s winner and best of all Kev Davies debut as he left em lying in his slip stream.

The funny bits when ther brought in Leicester police to escort the coaches only to take us to the low bridge where 8 - 10 coaches had to be reversed back in the footy traffic.
God I hate this league.

I'm struggling with all of those games Dave. I'm not sure Clucas scored against us for the Stags. Gregor Robertson's goal wasn't a winner and Jack Lester's was the third of a 3-1 win at Feel Ill. However, Lester also scored at Saltergate against them, and Kev Davies didn't make his debut versus Mansfield.
Other than that, perfect.

Yeh Dave is well wide of the mark there.

Clucas turned out for them in the first derby at the new ground, but didn't score.

The hate for Mansfield goes way back before 84/85. Read up on The Spencers Union and you'll understand why they're hated so much. I remember my dad, who wasn't a collier, wouldn't employ anyone from there.

Loads of Chesterfield think they were  miners on the Mansfield end at Field Mill scrapping around the time of the miners strike.

I think it?s the game where Lester, Beckett and Blatherwick with the last minute header, the 3-0 he?s referring to

Correct re Davies. Davies made his debut away at West Ham in the cup as a sub and made his home debut against them a couple of weeks later. I was there that night as a 15 year old and remember thinking he was going to be some player - especially after he dumped David burrows who tried to flatten him earlier.

The West Ham game we were stuck on the M1 in a huge hole up but just made KO I think. If I remember right he was, maybe still is, the youngest ever player in the cup

Quite a few younger than him including one 14 year old and several 15 year olds.
