May want to inform said someone they are not completely correct. As per the below link the 18 single deckers are Chinese but 39 double deckers are made by Alexander Dennis who are British based.

Indeed - my point is they are correct. The buses in service in Chesterfield are imported from China. You'd have thought we could have done better than this. Some of the sarcastic, jokey posts aside, my view is it's a sad day for British manufacturing. Yes, we've had Volvo and Scania buses in Chesterfield. At one time they were mostly Leyland - thirty-five years ago .Wonder if a Trumpian-style government would have allowed this Chinese insurgence into pulic transport provision. No doubt the more advanced members of Bob's Board pros woul bring in the pros and cons of free-tade vs tariffs.

This said, I'd be happy with a Chinese striker who can score 35 goals a season!

Well Hyundai are Korean.... and I dont think they have any UK manufacturing or assembly... but they do employ a German for their N motorsport division (which might open another can of worms).

The reality is the world is a small place as far as manufacturing goes and lots of things are now off shored to where they can be done cheapest - whether that is call centres in India (or elsewhere) software coding in India, manufacturing in any cheap labour country. Even back in 2001 we were important metal brackets from China as they were 1/10th the price of the previous supplier in West Brom. More logistical headaches and we had to buy in bulk with cash flow impacts - but it was the only way we could make a margin and sell at the price that our biggest customer wanted...

Come to think of it, my Dad liked to buy British and on retiring after 40 years at NCB bought himself a nice new Vauxhall - and was mortified to see it had a made in Belgium sticker on it when he collected it!

Well, Fyffes was original an English company and operating in Ireland was once the largest exporter of Bananas in Europe.

And one of the most popular varieties around the world (Cavendish) was first grown at Chatsworth, I think.

I think alot of the london buses are chinese but we still have alexander dennis and wright bus making buses here and plaxtons however they use chinese chassis

Interesting and I didn?t know that but Fyffes were importing those bananas before exporting , rather than growing them in Ireland, of course.

So is it just the fact they are made in China you are getting mardy about? Not the fact it?s non British?
