Yes I get that but last seasons accounts prett much set up the squad for this season. Also it said to expect a loss but not as much as this one didn’t it?

Can I point out that we have signed at least 17 players chasing promotion and compensating for the ever expanding injury the year. Most of them designed to be season starters or signed as replacement for those season starters.

We will just have to see how much we have been paying for the loanees (hopefully they are almost gratis) and those senior players (hopefully most will be paid relative peanuts as they were trying to relaunch their careers).

That is why I said it will be interesting [to see the wage bill]

See Azuls response.
One reason we wont make such a big loss is that there will be no Championship bonuses for the players and staff.

Wouldn't we have taken a top 10 finish.. stop being so melodramatic we got away with a poor performance at Barrow... today we didn't.

I can’t see Grimsby (who are 7th on 65) not getting at least 73/74 points, which means we would have to win 6 in a row and still be looking at others results.

The defeat today has done us.

I think if we are going to catch anyone it will be Wimbledon with their run-in. Bear in mind we'll probably have to take points off them anyway if we are to stand any chance of getting enough points

That’s the one route we might just be able to snatch at, but even if we won our game in hand and beat them we’d theoretically still be four points behind with 4 games to go. I think after todays disaster we’re almost in the realms of having to win all our remaining 6 games to even be in with a chance to sneak in. Let’s pack the beach towels and flip flops, renew our season tickets and see what the summer overall brings.

Sadly, I think you're right. As I've just posted on the match thread, our loss plus Grimsby's win today effectively cost us 6 points.

Was trying to be a bit positive and upbeat. I realise I’m in the wrong place for that….

Nobody is being melodramatic. I expected a playoff place and so did many others and if you doubt it please read the preseason threads. However nobody back then could envisage the injuries we have suffered and neither the effort we have made to compensate for them in our pursuit of promotion. All I am saying my ambition probably matches Phil Kirk's, but all it has cost me is a season ticket, the odd away game and a few beers.

Don't mention the Barrow performance we had brushed that one under the carpet

Lifting from the OOC thread, I reckon that we'll have these players in the squad come August.

Tom Naylor, Will Grigg, Liam Mandeville, Ryheem Sheckleford, Paddy Madden, Dylan Duffy, Armando Dobra. In theory also Chey Dunkley.

Of these, Dobra might start. Duffy, Naylor, Grigg, Madden and Mandeville potentially on the bench / sometimes not on the bench. IMHO Grigg and Mandeville having the strongest claims to start. Possibly Duffy if he presses on pre-season.

So potentially a complete new first 11 / first 10 plus Dobra for next season may be on the cards for August. If so, it could now be argued that the sooner that we know which league we'll be in, the better so that recruitment can get going.

Not saying it is likely but they have a really nasty run in. I agree though, after today's disgrace it is a Hail Mary.

Bit exaggerated but I do think you have a point. That is what bugs me about this consolidation stuff because it suggests things are stabilising and we just need to add and tweak. What you are suggesting is another complete clear out and rebuild.

Some perspective needed.
Today was unacceptable. So unacceptable that I'm counting it as only one point dropped as we would never have won. The current gap was always likely to happen at some stage. Would folk be as pessimistic if there was now a 6 point gap with a game in hand?

I have today down as Ollie Banks's best showboating display of the season. He did nowt except pass to the opposition, fail to tackle, slow play down, and upset Cooky.

Banks has been a good servant but has not the pace tenacity or drive to be offered another contract, we need a few players who relish a scrap , banks isn’t that type

cook has said on numerous ocassions that he doesn't trust certain players in his team, obviously he's not going to come out and say which one's but is Banks one of them? he's used Banks a lot recently in our good run.

He said in his inquest that a 'negative'(my word) kind of arrogance was evident. I sat near enough to him to know exactly who he was referring to.

A few players who relish a scrap - lack of - that sums us up perfectly. If it comes down to a scrap we fall short, as we did today.

Lack of pace with Banks is a good point, there were a cpl of times today were I thought he was on the ball only to have an opponent nip in before him

Singling him out , I’m not singling him out it was a reply to somebody else commenting on him,my evaluation is based on whether he gets another contract which I would not offer, I respect his efforts he is a good bloke but I feel his time at the club should end
