Can see grimes and macc tomorrow given how much of a battering ram Stockton is.

Would take a draw

I think Tyrone is in a very similar position to Ash. Both would prefer to move on now rather than wait for the mass exodus in June. Hasn't Ty opted to forego an operation? That's because he wants to play as many games as possible before the season ends, preferably at a club where his contract extends in to next season and perhaps beyond. Solihull?

I'd be looking to move them both on and get a new young prospect in at CH to learn the ropes. We've plenty of cover.

Could it be that Ty Williams has forgone an operation to help the cause of our club? If he's looking for another club, surely he'd take the opportunity to undergo the procedure now, so he has a fit bill of health for any new club. If he's been offered an operation, the specialist must think he needs it, and so will any club who's interested in him.

We would still have McFadzean, Grimes, Araujo, Donacien and of course Naylor.
I am with DV, Williams to go one way or another.

So, are we saying that Aroujo being out for 2 to 3 months and Donacien who might be our new RB plus Naylor who most want back into midfield is plenty of cover in case either, or both, MacFadzean and Grimes get injured or suspended?

Personally, I do not think so. If both Palmer and Williams depart I think we need to bring another CB.

Fadz seems to be the favoured nickname he had over the hills.

Correct, keeping Williams is a must for me, at the very least. He's shown that he's more than capable of playing in this league. As for playing in the league above, let's leave that to the summer when we can cast the net without getting stung.

I think you're right on Pepple and Naylor/McFadzean partnership, i think Kyle has been brought in as a replacement for Grimes who was drafted in as a replacement for Dunkley.

Only when (if) Dunkley returns this season so i think we will we see Naylor 'released' from the CB role.

Cookie's thoughts on the central defensive pairing is a bit of a head-scratcher for me.

Prior to Palmer's arrival last season, if we were to express concerns about the Grimes / Williams partnership they would focus on pace and distribution. We signed Ash Palmer who has similar strengths and weaknesses to both Grimes & Williams. We then went out in the summer and signed Dunkley, who, as far as I'm concerned falls into the same category. We've now signed McFadzean and given his age, he's not going to be breaking any records for speed.

If the intention was to start the season without Grimes or Williams (or both) in the starting 11, I'm struggling to understand why we didn't go out with the specific intention of putting some pace into the CB pairing given how we play.

I've a lot of time for Grimesy and at times I wonder if we've spent too much time trying to replace him instead of finding someone to play alongside him.

Grimes is a much better centre back than some give him credit for and he scores at the other end too. Yes going forward, we either need a pacey centre back to either to play alongside him or to replace him. Another way to go is to get the Everton lad or Tim Akinola to play the Mike Jones role. Yet another way is to alternate the full backs going forward so there's always three at the back. I'm just glad I'm not Paul Cook 😁.

I think that's why Cook plays Naylor in the centre back role so much. To provide a bit of pace there if needed. Because I assume Naylor is a bit quicker than the others to get back if we get balls over the top, which happens quite often.

Same. I imagine the new guys chomping at the bit. A win would cap off a busy week for the club very nicely

and because of all the central defenders we had on our books before this window, he is the most comfortable on the ball and the best at finding a team mate with a pass.

Does anyone know if the road from the roundabout at Staveley via Barrow Hill to New Whittington is open and not flooded?

I get the feeling PC thought Naylor would become a star at CB, which he may still become once he?s learnt the position, but it?s taking longer than originally expected.

PC talks about levels and this squad was built to win the NL and compete in the upper ends of L2. The fact that 80% of contracts run out at the end of this year is fantastic work by the management - gives a clean slate to build a L1 squad next year whichever division we end up in. Great time to be a Spireite!

Pretty exciting isn't it!

I think the fact many fans would be happy to consolidate this season but everyone in the club is talking about promotion is a bit of an anomaly aswell.

Just gonna enjoy the 2nd half of the season again like last year.
Here we go again!

I think this game will give us an idea of where we are against decent opposition. What positions needs strengthening and where we will likely end up at seasons end. They seem confident they will win this one with Markandy and Bez leaving. We will see.
