He needs coaching on trapping/killing a ball as nearly every ball to him bounces off a yard away and puts him under pressure,something I have been mentioning from him starting with us but which has not improved.He had one of his best games Tuesday because,IMO,he actually did defend at times.There is a player in there,and yes,he does put a shift in,just needs to add the little extras to his game.
On the subject of defending,once again I will ask,why do we not leave a man up at corners?Tuesdays game was a perfect example of how,with no outlet the ball keeps coming back at us with no way of releaving pressure.Also the amount of times we do not block crosses in to the box,just standing away and giving a free cross.I realise tactics have moved on considerably since I was a lad,but still do not make sense to me.
