Just cant see Cook wanting to move away from a full back that will offer something going forward.

I get it, but pump a high ball in and he has the run on Mandeville, there's only one winner

Hudlin? It doesn't matter who he gets the run on, he's 6'9", he's beating every single one of our players in the air.

At 6ft 9 he's going to do that to anyone not just Mandeville and we shouldnt be picking a right back on the off chance a 6ft 9 striker gets a run on them which in turn hampers our attacking threat.

My thoughts are if one of our defenders has a bit more hight, weight and bulk, that might not necessarily beat Hudlin in the air but at least make it more difficult than a 9 stone wet through Mandeville 😁

He's one of the worst professional players I have ever seen. But his height makes him a nuisance.

Not a chance. Then again I can remember Frank Nouble scoring 4 a few days after we had tried to sign him.

Is it too late to bring back Tom Denton?

He's too short for division 2

Very true but Hudlin will peel off to whoever our shorter centre half is so I'd expect Grimes and Araujo to play... or will they, because Cook loves to spring a surprise and he likes his centre halves' dominant foot to match the side they're playing on. In theory Hudlin should win every ball lofted up to him assuming he can jump more than a couple of inches off the ground, so think it's more about cutting off his supply, maybe even dropping off him to pick up his flick ons and being clever blocking at set pieces as opposed to winning individual aerial battles against him.

Anyway he's crap and won't bag on Friday.

But he scored against us last time didn?t he ?
God I hate this league.

I dont know what all the excitement is about, granted he is quick but not all that brilliant with his head.reminds me as being a similar player as Quigs but not a goal machine. Grimes will sort him out tomorrow.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Williams with Grimes (Grimes has to start in my eyes) just because I feel we need the extra hight vs Hudlin. I'd chuck Banks in midfield too as he's tall.

But poor in the air

Whoever gets the job of marking Hudlin would do well to check out some old footage of Sam Hird marking strikers a foot or more taller from crosses into the box. SH had a really clever way of getting in front and leaning back enough to put his opponent off-balance without conceding a foul. I can't remember a striker scoring by beating him to a cross.

Correct.
Another good example is Dutch Holland, who didn't really give a xxxx how tall his man was.

What my old PE teacher used to tell me when he inexplicably shoved me to CH against a giant was 'Don't worry Dim, you only have to jump 3 inches higher than him to put him off. Piece of cake with your agility (or words to that effect)'.

I suspect Hudlin is very similar to Quigley, ie bulk not height the significant factor.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on
