My EV hasn't missed a beat in 27 months / 26k miles.

Don't the tyres need replacing more often than normal cars due to wear as the batteries weight impacts then? Can you only have three options of tyres as well?

Where it?s great is that for the vast majority of the time the range far outweighs the trips we do. It?s a nice drive being quiet, has some go in it due to being electric and just easy with no gears to mess about with it etc.
We?ve had some bad luck with tyres having a few punctures some repairable, some not but it?s not been too bad that aside for going through them. There are electric car specific tyres but you don?t have to have them if you don?t want to. We?ve probably had two sets on the front in 35,000ish miles of generally town stop start driving. Flip side of the tyre thing is that due to regenerative braking the brake pads last forever. Ours was serviced and mot?d a few weeks ago and the original brake pads on the car from new have loads left on them. Also very few other serviceable things like oil etc to worry about.
As mentioned above though what?s let it down has been the service side by Vauxhall, at one point Bristol street on Chatsworth rd had one tech trained to work on electric cars. When it went in for its first cursory 8000 mile service they made a mess of it because the guy ended up being off so they did it with him on the phone and I wasn?t charged for it. There is a potential fault with the air con compressor on them and ours went, it was only me pushing for them to check it more than it needs a re-gas that got them to check and find ours was faulty. That said once diagnosed the part was in and sorted quite quickly.
I?m looking at potentially a plug in hybrid to replace our big insignia estate when that comes around. Not sure I want full electric as we do some long trips in it including France each year where we rack up 2500 miles so I can?t face doing it in an electric car but for general day to day stuff the electric range of most of them would do me for a week or two of commuting to work.
We do have the added bonus that my wife charges for free at work so running costs of an electric car for us are quite good!!

Can't comment on all but my car has done 36k miles and front tyres are original. Rears were replaced at 20k as I had a puncture at 70mph so one had to be replaced and I did the other for good measure.
No idea of options, that depends on size I assume. I replaced like for like as they seemed good but i know some have put some special EV SUV tyres on and are very happy with them.
For reference I had to put two new tyres on the rear of my last Audi RS4 at 10k miles

I charge in the wild at least once a month - splash and dash (or volt and bolt!) as I just add enough to get me home. Sometimes at the supermarket whilst I do the shopping, sometimes on m1 whilst I stretch my legs, sometimes a special trip to j29a whilst I catch up on emails. Never an issue.
Good point on brake pads, biflg saving. I charge at home for 6p a kwh overnight... 250 miles for 6 quid isn't bad for a 400hp awd big old bus...

Charging network is getting better but we just don?t use the car for those much longer trips. If we?re going on them it?s generally two adults, 7yr old and dog in tow plus luggage so need the bigger car anyway.
We?ve got a charger at home but it?s used rarely and probably just to add a bit of need be to get my wife to work where it?s charged fully. We use it that rarely I?ve not bothered moving to a cheap overnight rate

its a very good car. its not the best electric implementation - range is now not seen as great, efficiency is poor, charge speed behind newer models. But for me its a very good car that happens to be electric, as opposed to say a Model Y which is a very good electric car but does nothing to engage with the driver.
As they say, you pays your money....

This is the problem, they are borderline disposable tech, plus the fact that virtually every new company car (which takes a massive chunk of new car registrations) and these old tech models flood the market when 2 or 3 years old it all adds up to hence the crazy depreciation

What's your view on the MG electric range, particularly the MG4 EV?

I think the crazy depreciation is in part due to over supply to fleets - every car that has had high fleet sales has had poor residuals including the BMW 3 series back in the day. But also driven by the media stoking up the "something new is coming" and the desire of people to have the latest2 and greatest2. If you have a drive at home / can charge at home and do normal use patterns with minimal long journeys then actual range and charge speed are almost irrelevant....but the press dont promote that. 100% charge at 2p a mile whilst you sleep is the reality for many people...

I know lots of people with MG4s who love them, think there were a couple of tech issues on early models but they are a very good value very capable EV. I really like the Cyberster Ev two seater too.

It's what I'm looking at at the moment, the MG4. Just need to make sure I pick the right one...pros and cons for each model.

Top of the range Corsa electric showing this morning as ?277/month, 2 year PCH, 12k miles/year, 3 months deposit on Leaseloco. New hybrid version coming out which from what I read might be ?100/month more but reduces (almost) all local driving to zero cost.
PCH every time for me cos I don't have to even think about depreciation.

The longest trip we've done in it was a midweek trip to watch Sunderland at Blackburn which was about 150 miles round trip and got home with 10/12% left i think it was. Drove fairly steady plus it was a good mix of normal roads and motorway that meant, especially over the tops to Chapel, it got a good amount of regen back in to keep the miles per khw decent. Also it wasnt too cold which helped. During the warmer times we get over 4 miles per kwh but this can drop to low 3 if you have to start driving with the cabin heater on, demisting windows etc. That said i quite often dont bother with the cabin heater if i'm not going far and just use the heated seats\steering wheel which dont use as much. Its also set to precondition the car to about 20\21c whenever its above 50% on the battery which helps with defrosting\demisting and warming the car up before you go anywhere. Set to be ready for 7:30am every weekday for when the other half uses it for work.

Blimey, that's a cracking deal.
