Yes, they tried to copy Southgate's dour back pass sideways pass style of football and got nowhere.

Didn't take long for one of the 'experts' who know far more than Gareth Southgate, to pipe up and explain what he should have done. England played 'other players' in that position tonight, so that idea was highly successful wasn't it? Your brainwave, echoed by a huge flock of other sheep, resulted in defeat to a team that had never achieved that before - brilliant! You and your fellow 'experts' can get ready for more rude awakenings after driving out the most intelligent manager England have had to date. Of course, you could always send your CV to the FA and demonstrate your genius by winning a few international trophies- I can't wait.

That's all great; however, you've offered a load of word salad and not actually answered my question. I didn't say what he 'should have done'; I asked you why he did something that clearly wasn't working and consistently did so. The question was very pertinent to the statement you made.

This, coming from the 'expert' who insisted a certain plasterer was a top player in the National League and was the one who would score us the goals to get out of it...we ended up needing Will Grigg for that particular task.

Nah they didn?t. There was lots of quick passing in tight areas which isn?t what Southgate encouraged. Was totally different imo, not all necessarily good but certainly different. We got into some dangerous areas (Palmer?s miss) but Greece defended well and we lacked cutting edge (a striker). We also left ourselves hideously open to counter attacks and a few of our players had stinkers (Lewis, Foden, Bellingham at times and Gordon although at least the latter two were trying to make things happen). We conceded two shocking goals so not a great night all in all! But the Nations League has replaced friendlies and is for experimenting in, so that?s what we did. Greece were impressive, set up well and had an excellent striker who is doing really well for Benfica in Pavlidis.

You certainly did!

He seems to have also forgotten that Southgate lost 4-0 to Hungary in this same competition.

Additionally, Southgate was also seconds away from an even more embarrassing defeat than Roy's Iceland defeat in 2016. If it wasn't for Bellingham's overhead against Slovakia, he probably would have been sacked pretty swiftly, post-exit from tournament.

Although winning still looking toothless against Finland and very vulnerable at the back

He's tried to, I just don't think they're capable of doing it yet.

Didn't you notice that he took the amateur 'experts' advice and released the handbrake against Greece? That went really well didn?t it?

You think he did what other people wanted rather than what he wanted to do? I think you're wide of the mark if so.
