Yep and shows up exactly why the National League were happy to back the Premier Leagues plan to scrap FA Cup replays....as they were getting some form of kick back with this although not sure how much the National League clubs knew about it and if they are happy to play in it! Presume there is some form of monetary compensation heading the NLs way for doing it that you assume must be being split around clubs although we know how good they are at dividing things like that up fairly!

£1m in prize money to be split amongst participating clubs presumably based on progression in the competition

This is a watered down version of Gregg Dyke's efforts to get Premier League Reserves Squads playing in the EFL. It was rejected out of hand. The idea was - and is - to prepare them for potential international football by playing men's football at an earlier stage in their careers. Nothing it for the EFL clubs but a small financial sweetner and would imagine practically zero interest from supporters.

To be fair to Oldham, their fans have absolutely slated it on their twitter announcement.

The fact that FA Cup replays have been swapped for this nonsensical competition is an absolute disgrace.

Er isn?t that more or less exactly like we?ve got in the FL trophy? We?re playing the Prem U21?s. They?ve got some of the Championship ones as well I notice.

Sounds more ominous to me. Four groups of eight teams for starters. Mention of Dyke's plan should be enough to send shivers down anyone's spine. Perhaps it is another effort to implement it be stealth. Get a foot in the door in an effort to rehydrate the idea. With underage teams in the EFL and NL - next step an EFL3 with Premiership 'B' teams

Them along with Barnet, Solihull and Southend have declined to play in it with Dagenham & Redbridge, Wealdstone, Woking and Ebbsfleet replacing them.

Just reading that Martin Thacker has been appointed an Independent Non Exec Director on the NL Board, so he's presumably weighed up the pros and cons and subsequently endorsed it. I wonder if he sounded out the CFC Board?

Football authorities seem to think fans are demanding more football when in fact we want to see good entertainment with consistent referees. What they don?t get is that more games just dilutes the quality
