An outfit I can't remember tried this a few years ago - in fact leaving THREE up!
Seems too sensible to be true; our fastest2 couple of players - who probably wouldn't do a lot defensively anyway - on the half way line then send it as soon as.
But if an attacking minded manager like PC dun't do it, there must be a good reason...

Forest Green Rovers? I seem to remember it went horribly wrong and their manager changed it before HT
