Reading between the lines and the latest injury news in the DT I reckon two will be dropped from it. Sheckleford and Palmer don't have a return date is it will be them no doubt.

Tooley on 1866 thought we have 23 outfielders currently but I thought it was 22. However I think we'll lose the two named above whatever. That will leave at least one place for non contract player.

Worrying that Madden is "a few weeks", but better news on Colclough and the Fulham lads.

Dilan is the only loan player over the age of 21.

However, we have lost both Quigley and Akinola whilst Boot does not count being a keeper.

As such, I thought we were down to 22 including both Palmer and Sheckleford.

Think it might be difficult to be honest, suspect most players would want at least until the end of the season. If you tell them they?re only guaranteed to play until January when Shecks and Palmer will come back into the squad, would they look elsewhere for a club?

When January comes, thats when Paul Cook makes the decisions that are best for the team, possibly others may be moved on loaned out to free up spaces for better players. Free agents that are brought in will not necessarily be short term planning.

I think the squad list is resubmitted after the January transfer window so they could be added then and someone else dropped off the list. Doesn't mean it has to be any out of contract player signed now.

If you look at the squad lists last year, few in league 2 had 22 players in it.

Then again some free agents might be pleased to start receiving a salary with Christmas coming up so a short-term deal until 31 January might work for both parties.

It seems Sheckleford has had his operation so unless he becomes match fit before December does it really make sense to include him in the 22? That is not being discourteous to him as he will still be in receipt of a salary and could be given the opportunity to join a NL club for a few weeks to get him match fit.

Palmer is not having an operation but it seems he is still long-term and we are looking into November before he starts training again. Then it will be a question as to when he will be match fit.

Personally, I would leave both out of the squad list which covers the period up to 31st December and look at a couple of short-term deals to give those players the opportunity to prove themselves before we decide on our squad for the second half of the season.

If they are still free agents now they might not have the chance to be overly choosy about what deals they get.

Not sure Cook will add free agents just for the sake of it, unless he can find a real bargain. My gut feeling is he?s likely to go with what he has until January (but there again my gut feeling was that he wouldn?t sign 11 players in this transfer window so what do I know?).

As an aside, is there a list of free agents? I thought there used to be one on the PFA website but can?t find it.
