Haven't we got a scout in Holland or somewhere or does that break EU rules?

Mostly wingers not out and out centre forwards, and seemingly mostly overseas players.

You can narrow it down by choosing criteria on the search they provide - what league they were in, worth of player, ect.
Cuts down the list considerably to a better guess

I really don?t get the hysteria around bringing in a striker.

Paddy madden is back very soon and we have other options. No panic required

Paddy Madden hasn't played as a striker for a good while. Who, other than Drummond, are the other options you speak of?

So what position did he play in when he scored 25 last season ?

I believe he either played alongside Woottan in a two up front or further back in a No10 type role.

In the few friendlies he appeared in for us Cook played him central in our three behind Grigg.

Whenever I have seen him in the past I have considered him to be the type of striker that likes to come deep in teams that also play with a second front man.

Whether the lone striker role will suit him we will have to see.

He scored 22. 18 in the league. He played in the role behind the centre forward. I?m not saying he can?t or won?t, but he hasn?t recently.

Just going back 10 years or so, we managed to win League 2 in 2014 with a Centre Forrad who scored a massive 11 goals! The much lauded Eoin Doyle who was disregarded as Mediocre to useless on here during our League Two campaign

Marc Richards (Backup) got 8

It was mentioned that we had had the most shots in the league prior to Saturday, I believe 75 was the figure, but only 25 on target, and I'd wager that Grigg hasn't had the majority

My point being it's not panic stations

A few points to raise....

Doyle got criticised by some, the ones that thought Richards should be starting, not everyone
Doyle and Richard rarely started together, probably didn't finish many games together either
Not checked your figures but Doyle+Richards=19 goals
Neither were massive scorers but they were proper No9s and that is still 19 goals from your main striker(s) in about 46 starts

Fair points, only going from Wiki (I'm sure sky is blue has more in depth stats)

Doyle = 43 appearances
Richards = 34 appearances

Even if some of those were sub appearances, you'd expect they'd be swapped like for like, so as you've rightly done put them as 1 person makes 19 goals

I reckon Madden and Grigg (when he returns) can get that over the season

The point is, we don't have a replacement as Cook hasn't found one he deems worthy of signing, he could very well just dip into the free transfer market for anyone that fits the bill of a number 9, hey I reckon Ebanks Blake or Chris O'Grady are probably available but we probably want better quality than that don't we?

Soccerbase suggest 47 starts between them and they are very reliable and like this season we generally played 4231.

Of course even if they weren't prolific they certainly entertained the defenders. Not sure Drummond or some other makeshift CF would do the same. Let us hope Madden is back very soon and stays fit.

The guy went down holding his head for the best part of a minute suggesting a head injury. The ref eventually stopped the game believing it was. Two sponge men came on and treated his leg for the best part of five minutes after which he got up and walked away. His mission to stop the game and disrupt the flow worked perfectly. Town might have had no shots on target but when seven Vale booking for hacking down promising moves were issued, one can perhaps see why. Incidently the press box called offside. Having said that we were poor and didn't deserve anything.

That about sums up the charade over the injury, we have a situation of highly trained medics undermining their respected profession by basically playing puppets to their teams coaches underhand demands.

I?m unsure of the relevance of Doyle and Richard?s stats from ten year plus ago ?

A certain irony that the replacement is a certain paddy madden who has been the envy of my clubs strike force for many a season

It's becoming more and more prevalent and ruining the game. We pay to watch football not theatrics and sometimes this sham injury is almost comically unbelievable to see. Perhaps we should start a pressure group to get the League to introduce rules to eliminate the dark arts/gamesmanship/cheating call it what you will. I am sure steps can be taken to reduce the number of times it happens. Even to the point of coaches saying it's a waste of time even trying because we would be a man down or something.

more often than not you can gauge the seriousness of the situation by the way the physios enter the pitch

If they race on you know that it could be serious and is not part of a pre planned strategy

then if they amble on you can guess that they are just adding to the charade of taking time out of the match to slow down any momentum the opposition might have

Apologies to any physios reading this who only really have one speed at entering the pitch lol

Exactly.

They are ruining the game that provides them their livihood. It's a shame when a professional person has to be totally unprofessional to keep his/her job. It does go back a few years with Mourinho sacking an over efficient female physio.
