You felt the same about the FA Cup?

This is is ridiculous- it’s a comp we could win - one of the oldest comps # in the world and at Wembley.

# it’s one of the youngest- 1969 first played for; by non league teams unable to enter the FA Amateur Cup, the fore runner of the FA Vase.

Every drawn game went straight to penalties today.

Just the sign of the times, the demise of the cup competition.

Started by Manure, spread to the test of the Premiership, then the Championship, the the rest of the EFL. Started spreading to the non league (we even have types on here suggesting we should field weak sides) and I’m not just talking just FA Trophy.

Think attitudes changed in the Trophy due to fixture congestion seasons after Covid where extra time and replays fell out of fashion

It should be midweek and regionalised until the semi-finals for me. Anyway, hopefully today is our last ever game in it.

To be honest it is a joke of a competition, probably will be a Solihull vs Bromley final with an attendance of about 5000.

They need to axe the thing, or build a competition that’s actually worth participating in with a meaningful prize, eg good prize money, or direct entry to the FA Cup 3rd round the next season.

The current model is about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

Well done to the youngsters you did us proud, but glad we dont have to worry about this tinpot trophy anymore. I was bored out of my skull listening to the commentary, can't wait to go to Barnet next weekend.

But we all think the National League is also tinpot. Weird

I’m afraid you are the joke. There is normally a decent attendance at the Trophy finals, 28000 last year between two giants Gateshead/Halifax , 46000 the year before. Obviously it depends on who reaches the final but perhaps you are confusing it with some Playoff finals, 8000 at one recently.

And the EFL cup or do people forget there are 3 cup competitions when we get back to the League instead of just the 2 we get to compete in, in the National League?

I know Mansfield got to the final once and lost (Darlington?). And I know Jack played for Gateshead in one. But I couldn’t tell you either of last years' finalists. Wrexham lost to Bromley actually didn’t they in one - remember it from the TV programme.

We’ll never find out now but if we had made the final I reckon they’d have been 12/15K of us

You miss the point Gordon, for the likes of Dorling,Oxford City and other clubs with 1500 attendances or there about, why should they be denied a Wembley appearance ?

Delusions of grandeur my friend, we’d have jumped at it if AC had still been driving the ship.
God I hate this league.

Do we really just want to play league games. Variety is the spice of life.
Under what circumstances should we have tried to win today?
Bottom and fighting relegation? Mid table with nothing to play for? Just outside the playoffs or 9 points clear with 2 games in hand with the biggest and best squad in the division?
A lengthy contribution earlier in the week questioned our finances. £60000 for winning the Trophy plus gate money is not to be sniffed at. 3 or 4 first teamers today and we would have won. Then review the situation when there is a fixture clash. The Board should have told the coaching staff to pick a team to win. What is the point otherwise.

Would this argument/debate hold water if we win the trophy at the expense of going up? No, of course it doesn't.
