Pace is one thing but speed of thought is another.

Bobby Moore wasn't fast but very good at being in the right place at the right time.

Will Grigg isn't fast but, again reads the game wel, such as in the way he closed their keeper down in the opening seconds on Sunday.

You can have all the pace in the world but if it's not used properly then you often end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You don’t think pace can be improved by training?

Pace is a natural attribute. No amount of training will get any of us challenging Usain Bolt.

Better technique can make a big difference....yes you're not going to make Joe Quigley run Bolt close but you can make people more mobile with better technique and training to enhance their running muscles i would have thought.

But they need that natural ability to start with.
And we're not talking shaving a couple of seconds off a 100m, the most a player needs pace is over a few yards so you might get a few inches of improvement, but if you improve his anticipation you will gain far more inches.

Samy Morsy obviously thought it was worth doing as he did work with a running coach while with us a few years ago :-

You say this every other day. It lessens the impact of the statement, just FYI.

I didn't say that.

But, pace without positional sense doesn't necessarily improve a player.

Being in the right place at the right time is better than being the quickest to get to the wrong place.

I starterd running just under 5 years ago. My mile time back then would have been about 8 minutes. If I raced a mile now, I'd be looking to break 5 minutes. I'm nearly 42. I'll never challenge Usain Bolt over 100 meters but then I'm not a phenom.

You obviously don’t surf much then…. Or read the Gerbil fella.

You kinda know what he’s saying though.

I never said training won't make you faster.
I said: If you do not have the natural ability to run fast, no amount of training will have you challenging Usain Bolt.

BIG DIFFERENCE

Read the post before making ridiculous statements.

To be fair i'm not sure anyone said that training would make you as fast as Bolt....

Good point but my belief is the more time spent on running techniques just to gain half a yard is less time spent on the bread and butter stuff like shooting, passing etc.

Apparently CPS believes so as me saying it wouldn't was the most ridiculous thing he had ever read.
