I’m sat having a pint with Andy Dallas right now in a bar in Lindos, Rhodes and he’s just told me that in no uncertain terms he’s signing

For Mansfield. Apparently his late grandad was Ian McGregor’s butler (ask your dads/grandads kids) so he felt he had an affiliation

Ah well you win some you lose some, down to you now Will Grigg.

ah, Ian McGregor, Maggie's appointed hatchet man. He signed my Dads service certificate for 41 years at NCB... just before he took voluntary redundancy. I was ashamed of my first name at the time ;)

Let’s face it -‘the stadium, the town, and the fan base is a massive pull for any footballer.

I wouldn’t blame him one bit if he sighted for them - imagine being on the bench, warming up and coming on, the roar from the bishop street stand behind the dug outs to get you fired up!!!

Lower league sleeping giants right there on the other side of the M1 - who could blame him
A new hope.

Just read The miners strike by Geoffrey Goodman wrote in 1985 some real insights to what little influence Mcgregor really had

As he didn’t go to Portugal and we haven’t announced the signing I think you may be straw clutching. I suspect it’s over and we have moved on to plan b

Apart from Ibe I doubt whether any of our other potential signings went to Portugal either.

Dallas hasn't, as yet, signed for anybody else either but I doubt we, as a club, will put up with this "will he, won't he" situation for much longer. Meanwhile, most clubs will be back to pre-season training and unless he makes his mind up fairly quickly now he could find himself a little behind his fellow professionals in the fitness stakes. I noticed last season he struggled a bit for fitness and never managed a full 90 minutes with us so it's possible his fitness can be improved upon.

It seems we have irons in the fire and, like any other club, we will have options but, similarly, those options will only remain options whilst ever they are available.

Dallas seemed to turn his ankle in his home debut. I often wondered if he was carrying that from them on and perhaps that’s why he didn’t ever appear to last more than 70 mins.

I’d forget Ibe

Well he absolutely loves the sesh. He’s out most weekends so that’s certainly not gonna help anything fitness wise!

I think most glaringly and I'm not trying to join the hate train but Charlie Walden has been remarkably quiet on the whole Dallas fiasco especially after using such certain terms as "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and "Dallas is done and I stand by that".

If all that was the case wouldn't it have been announced either on the 1st of July or even before then, strange all round.

Now you mention it, I'm sure you are right about Dallas picking up an injury in his home debut so perhaps that contributed to him never completing a full game.

Ibe is an interesting one but so, I thought, was Danny Rowe actually being there.

The biggest unanswered question is perhaps about Rowe. Under what circumstances would he have been taken to Portugal? They can only be that he's convinced somebody that he can attain the required fitness level and be squad ready; and that he's already passed some sort of milestone. If not then his trip was a waste of time and money.

Or am I being naive?
