Is it not possible a tax free compensation fee of circa £30k can be agreed as opposed to him paying tax and NI on his earnings?

I think £30k is the limit, but if he's owed say £75k then he'd still get much more holding out for that (or larger chunk of it) even allowing for deductions.

Not a reply to above its re cal Roberts ex notts and now at Aberdeen ,now don't get me wrong, absolutely brilliant at notts ,but he's apparently had a serious hamstring problem ,my question is if we got him or a loan ,that's been mentioned, might be good if it does break down again ,as I say this guy's good, will his hammy be weaker,,? And loaned can go back to parent club if it goes again?

Guess it depends whether he feels he’s still got a future as a player. As time ticks on, presumably there’s less for CFC to ‘pay up’ and they can offer less. If he spends that time sitting in the stands, is he harming his chances of getting another playing gig? Maybe £30k in the back pocket and freedom to choose his next move might have some appeal? I dunno, just speculating.

I don’t think we should be considering any player who we don’t realistically think we can get upwards of 40 games from. Similarly last week there were some on Facebook going on about Clucas - massive gamble for me.

You should know by now it's sacrilege to criticise Quigs on here. He works hard, holds it up, lays if off, wins headers, helps out the defence and even scores the odd goal. Leave him alone!

he is not good enough and if people on bobs board dont agree,i could not care less...they are wrong, does not make him a bad player, just at this level his attributes dont match our needs, people have a tendency to get a bit upperty when you say not good enough, but as in all sport its relative to what standard you play at.
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART

Who suggested ndlovu at boring wood for me is a good shout,or Jamie Matt?

If he'd stayed fit he'd have been our top player, his quality was there for all to see, and it was an excellent signing, assuming his health problems weren't known about. Me, I'm sorry we've missed the opportunity to watch such an exciting player.

I think the vast majority of bobs board appreciate he’s not good enough to lead the line or play a major role in anyteam actively seeking top spot.

He may well have been our top player, my issue is with the person signing off a 3 year contract (clearly not based on attaining a minimum number of appearances) to someone who'll be 35 when it expires. Assuming that's when it does expire, of course.

Like Mike Jones has proved far too old this season? And sometimes the only way to sign a top quality player is to give him a long contract - that Jack Lester bloke came for a long contract, and look what a passenger he was.

Notts gambled on Bostock who has had 15 different clubs and Jodi Jones who’s only played 100 games by the age of 25 due to injures.

Both extremely talented at this level but both a roll of the dice.

Would love Cal Roberts. But as others have said, has to be a basic wage with perhaps an appearance bonus? Can’t get stuck in a Rowe / Oyeleke / Asante situation.

Unfair on Rowe. His problem is not an ongoing footie injury that could be forecast.

I don’t think Bostock was much of a gamble medical wise. He’s just been a journey man. Once touted by the biggest clubs in Europe. Brilliant player, especially at this level

Quite right, Bostock hasn’t suffered with injuries but I’d imagine there’s a reason a player has had 15 clubs by the age of 31 and a reason a player with his undoubted ability isn’t being employed at a higher level.

He was brilliant last week.
However anyone recall his appearance at Whitt Moor, in Feb 2012 with Wednesday? (A month later he came on as sub for Swindon at Wembley-both while on loan from Spurs) I recall in the build up to the Owls game, there was a lot of talk of the danger of his career going no where (he had cost £700K at the age of 16 in 2008). And his performance in those games seemed to confirm that perception.

From what I can remember he did very little to show anything in the game for the Owls- other than fouling Ajose for our winning penalty.

Clearly eleven years and a drop in levels has made a difference.

I think there will be a flurry of transfer activity in the next month or so..just on holiday with the footy lads from various clubs & a new regulation for agents is coming into force where they only get 3% of deals, currently negotiate what they want…so you you’ll lots of deals pushed through soon so agents can cash in before regulations tighten up

First of all we need a publication of our retained list- surprised there's been no 'will be announced on...' headline as yet.
Notts County's full list was announced yesterday morning.

We gambled on George Cooper and it didn’t come off, Oyeleke and Clark on the way out - I think the club is doing all it can to prevent a 2021/22 situation emerging. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some younger players coming in, maybe like those 2 ex Man U lads released by Donny?

I agree, when he signed it wasn’t a risk, he was a top lower league player. It’s just really unfortunate what’s happened to him.
