I know a bloke who knows another bloke both of which aren't reliant on canine imput but are catogoric in the the following, which no doubt most will think totally bizarre:- A London based league club have pulled out of a bid for Dobs cos they can't match his wages, but a deal for Quigs is very close. I know I know I have a large drum of 'Saxa' available.
The story stems from the smoke not here. We know full well that stories/make believe from that neck of the woods are generally unreliable, time will tell with this one.

Crikey, don't threaten me with a good time. If we could get Quigley off the books that would be a massive boost. Still don't think Dobra will leave either, but even if he did I'm more than comfortable trusting Cook to replace him with somebody just as good if not better.

I've got worries that he's going to be one of those wingers who looks bright but then flatters to deceive. He needs to learn tactical awareness and... not sure how to put this... where to stand, lol. A loan to a lower National League club would be good I reckon. But we'll see.

Yeh, amazing talent, just no game intelligence YET. It can be developed, and who better than Cook to aid that? I think we keep him here, he is a big asset and changed a lot of games for us last season.

I think it’s likely that Cook will be a big factor in Dobs signing and him staying or going but also I wouldn’t be surprised as part of him agreeing to drop to NL there’s an understanding we won’t stand in his way if the right deal comes along.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

The chunk of salary being taken up by Quigley, Rowe and Asante must be eye-watering. We are hamstrung to an extent if any of them remain at the club next season. Agree Mandy has more attributes of a 10 than a right sider but he's just got the best numbers of his career down the right so I'd be hesitant changing that, especially if King is going to remain our starting right back next season, he needs somebody in front who can cover and graft. I don't see why Dobra can't play in the hole.

With Rowe, Cook should sit down with him and explain he’s unlikely to play (especially if more forwards are signed) and he’ll be out on loan again if he remains here and then see if we can reach a mutual agreement to pay him up.
It’s a shame but it’s pretty clear he’s done here, and possibly done at this level. Not sure his loan spells this season were particularly great from what I can see.

York fans weren’t very complimentary of him that’s for sure. And as you say it’s a shame because when he was fit he was a class above non league. Health comes first though and after having god knows what done to his heart, he should probably just call it a day although I know it’s not that easy.

You should know by now it's sacrilege to criticise Quigs on here. He works hard, holds it up, lays if off, wins headers, helps out the defence and even scores the odd goal. Leave him alone!

Jez needs some time on the pitch. I'd be getting him out on loan somewhere in NL or NLN to get him some game time!

You’d think we could work a bit more closely with Alfreton.

Surely it would be better to have players with aspirations of first team football getting time on the pitch just one level down.

Other than a few ex-players going there like Sam Hird and Denton and Nicky Law going to Alfreton as manager, I don’t remember a lot of interaction between the two clubs.

Do you really think either party isn't aware that there'll be no game time?

The bottom line is he won't be walking away from a tasty wage anytime soon. I don't blame him for that. I do blame whoever sanctioned the award of a 3 year contract to a player of his age; they should be made to pay it themselves. Eye-watering incompetence.

If he'd just use his pace more and stop the pausing before trying to take somebody on then he'd be halfway to being a good, good player.

It annoys me when players do that. The game's about movement, and the faster the better, which I'm sure Cookie drums into them at every opportunity. If you stop it's because you haven't been aware of where your team mates are, or they haven't taken up position to receive a pass. I suspect it's the former in Jez's case, but he can be coached into it, and if so he'll be a handful.

If he'd stayed fit he'd have been our top player, his quality was there for all to see, and it was an excellent signing, assuming his health problems weren't known about. Me, I'm sorry we've missed the opportunity to watch such an exciting player.

He’s got a year to run on his contract, do they have to pay his contract up in full? Maybe Cook and the club can reach an agreement with him

Unless he's got someone lined up to willing 'bridge the gap' why would he willingly accept a reduced deal to leave, unless he wants a change of lifestyle/career?

"I know you owe me £75k for next season plus this summer share of my signing on fee, but I'll take £30k less if you release me now?"

I can't see it, and anyway any such pay off will have come from this coming seasons playing budget, anyway.

He may well have been our top player, my issue is with the person signing off a 3 year contract (clearly not based on attaining a minimum number of appearances) to someone who'll be 35 when it expires. Assuming that's when it does expire, of course.

Like the West Brom game at home when he failed to track back and they equalised?

He did track back but was 10 yards behind everyone else playing Asante onside.

Is it not possible a tax free compensation fee of circa £30k can be agreed as opposed to him paying tax and NI on his earnings?
