I remember the summer of 1983 when he arrived - post relegation season when we hardly had any players left. A new beginning saw the arrival of Steve Waddington, Bryan Klug, John clayton, Derek Bell and Winston White - exciting signings for me as a sixteen year old although none of them really did anything. Along came Steve Baines, Alan Birch, Steve Spooner and Brian Scrimegeour followed by Barry Stimpson and bob Newton.
Happy memories of going to away matches on trains with the lads.
Not the most endearing football but a stabilising season with good talent like Gary Bellamy, Phil Brown and Andy Higginbottom coming through the ranks. Over 10,000 for Everton cup game and an optimistic end to season in front of 1900 fans!
Great music around this time too!
Following season saw success with Moss and Hunter returning.
In the 1990s, Duncan made us into a decent League 1 outfit before things went wrong - a victim of his own success.
I always felt secure most of the time watching town with him in charge - the like of Beamount, Williams, Lormor, Reeves and Holland were great signings.
For me, it was the 83/4 season which I remember most fondly - mostly due to the re-birth of the football club and the 'zeitgesit' at the time.
Thanks for the memories - RIP

The memories for we Town fans well recorded here. For we older fans - we also recall a brilliant marauding centre forward- 64 goals in 122 for Dundee, 53 in 107 for Spurs.

RIP John, and thank you for everything you did. You got results where other managers failed to do so.

I think so as only our players were wearing the Black armbands.
Just wondering if the funeral cortège with do a lap of the Technique, be nice to pay respects if that’s the case.
