Is it any wonder the season went the way it did?

If we were dominating possession and outplaying teams, being solid at the back and creating chances and simply not putting them away then I would agree.
Unfortunately that is not the case. Losing Kabongo is a cheap excuses trotted out by those who refuse to accept Cookies weaknesses, probably on the nostalgia of his previous spell.
The truth is, he’s had half of season to get it right and although injuries have taken their toll, we’ve been garbage.
We pulled a cracking performance at Halifax but it was rare occasion.
Shoot me down if you like but the truth is, if Cookie didn’t have success here in the past, the majority of fans would be wanting him gone.
I hope he turns it around next season I’ll support him and the team but so far, he’s not given me any reason to believe that he can do it.

Not excuses for Cookie. Plain and simple facts.
League’s top scorer injured in his first game.
Last year’s player of the season unable to play a single game under him.
Our most creative player in Clarke not played a minute under him.
Oyeleke injured just before he arrived and never got fit enough to string more than two games together.
Croll, our captain at the time, injured before he played a minute under Cook.
Rowe, season essentially done before he arrived.
What he was left with was a group of band average players that aren’t good enough to get promoted. It’s a good job Rowe signed every man and their dog because we wouldn’t have been able to field a squad in the last few months otherwise.
Unfortunately, as said, the ones that were left were simply not good enough. Rowe had a number of good signings but he had a number of dreadful ones too.
Sod all to do with Cook.

Yep. If we'd had something approaching a full squad to choose from, how many of today's team/16 would you actually have chosen to play in a play off semi final?

50% of the entire squad haha. Majority would have started too.
If only eh.

You expected Asante to start the season?

I'm not convinced that Cook would have started Gunning, but would probably be on the bench. Otherwise agree - and probably add Hollis too.

No, but eventually to form a potent strike partneship with Kabby. As it was they barely played together. Don't know how many games but they both scored at Stockport and Asante came on and scored from Kabby's good work against Chelsea.
Having said this it is clear that Asante isn't the same player he was before injury and possibly might not be again. He is still preferbale to Quigley or Denton though.
Will Kabby be the same player? In his favour is that he's younger than Asante.
I think we will have to face the fact that two hithero excellent players in Asante and Danny Rowe are unlikley to be the same again and may not even feature at all.

I think we need to hold judgement somewhat on Asante til he has chance to do a proper full pre season and see where he is. He didnt get one last season and he was potentially rushed back a bit quicker than we would have liked after what happened to the other strikers.
In terms of Tshimanga its a different type of injury with no muscle\ligament damage which i suspect makes a big difference in terms of recovery etc.
