I'm pressing 2; I think that I probably exhibit the occasional 'dweebish' behaviours

If he isn't cleared and we cannot move forward from what ever the issues are with Counselling, Fines etc then I would take Paul Cook until the end of the season

Several points on this regarding Cookie.

1) , would he be interested to drop to the National League

2) , what does he know of the games or teams played in the National League / , and North/South.

3) , What players does he know in this League if we need to add to the team.

4) , Is he familiar with the style, or lack of it in this League.

Maybe
Played for Marine, managed Southport
He knows plenty of players that would improve this team
I'd imagine like most football managers, he watches all televised football when able including non league

Cooks stock is still way above NL level, so assuming he's had a pay off from Ipswich (if not, they'll be paying him 'til he gets another job or until the length of his deal is up) the only way we'd get him is if he's willing to work with what we have (players and backroom staff - we can afford another clear out!!) and on the agreement he is allowed to walk away should he get a job offer higher up (which he soon will).

IF (and its a massive IF) he was to come here then come March (maybe sooner!), we could be looking for manager number 3 of the season!

Cookie will be on a big pay off for being sacked by a championship club.....think his sights will be higher than the National League somehow.

He walked from Accrington
He walked fron Town
He walked from Ponpey
He walked from Wigan
Sacked by Ipswich

He needs to rebuild his stock. OK maybe not as low as us but Div 1 or 2 maybe.

Ipswich are League One.
If he is on gardening leave, wouldn't that cease if he took another job, in which case he has no real incentive to come to us?
These go to eleven.

Probably correct about getting him on those terms but the board will know if JR's coming back and can convey that in private.
As for can't afford himw, Unless he accepted a lump sum, his payment from Ipswich will continue monthly until end of his contract, regardless of his employment status.

As I understand it his drip payment is offset if less than what another club offer him or stops completely if new deal is more money

I doubt there is one rule\way that is the case every time a manager is sacked. There will be clauses etc in each contract that cover severance payments and what gets paid til when etc. I cant believe a club like Watford for example operate as they do paying umpteen managers at a time, more likely there is an arrangement in the contract in the case of being sacked over results etc.
