Southend After Rowe

It would appear JR must have been high on the list if an approach has been made today.
The club have made a statement which was confirmed on BBC radio tonight and on the club website. John Croot was asked to comment and didn’t want to come on the radio but confirmed the statement made by the club on the website.
Let’s hope it’s been put to bed ..there’s nothing JR can do about other clubs showing interest. The club have handled it in the only way they can. These things have a nasty habit of reappearing but can’t see it somehow for many reasons.
JR seems happy here ..he’s settled in Nottingham..the club have supported him beyond belief and things are going the right way on the pitch.
Be good if he said something if asked in his next interview and let’s hope it doesn’t unsettle things too much.

But approaching a ‘big’ ex league team at the top end to takeover…is a stretch.
We got JR from a small non league club, punching above their wait in the league below national…..no brainier for a manager to jump ship.
Bit arrogant & ambitious from Southend in my view

Given all the tangible success on the pitch Paul Cook had here I don't recall a single approach for his services until it became clear he was finished at the club.
Cookie has never gone as high as he should have done given what he has achieved, but then I don't imagine his refreshment habits are a secret in football. I imagine that may have put people off

Cookie was a revelation here & rightly so, but his expectations don’t meet the reality….PC has a level at league 1 & struggled to prove his capabilities at championship level.

It was a no-chance publicity stunt by a drowning owner

Swearing his loyalty and then leaving weeks later probably doesn’t go unnoticed. Something JR has never done but perhaps he needs to be wary about moving for the sake of it.

Don't underestimate the pulling power of a filthy rich owner. Now I have no idea whether he is, or if he is committed to a rebuild job. If he is though, I can definitely visualise the seduction and acquisition of JR or somebody similar cos, make no mistake, with investment funds JR will succeed. The scope of that funding might be much, much higher at Sarfend. On the other hand, if they are broke and have to rely on Fat Stan then that's an end to it.

Before our match with them, Brown said they were a mid table club finance wise. The owner’s not spent any money as such yet, what evidence he will start now?
But must say, not sure what to make of all this. I’ve always said JR will move on sooner rather than later- but Southend?
Is it all a ploy to put his name out there for a club higher up the ladder to come and get him?

That was the suspicion last year when the same journalist was suggesting interest from Colchester

Tinpot league? Ourselves, Southend, Wrexham, Grimsby, Stockport, Notts County, Torquay, Halifax,Yeovil, Aldershot,York City, Hereford and Woking (yes Woking) are all league 1/2 clubs (not necessarily teams) in my humble opinion. Coupled with up and coming well run (and financed) clubs like Bromley, Borehamwood, Eastleigh, Dartford, Dorking, Fylde, Brackley and St Albans.
I have come to respect the National League and the level of competition afforded. I've just rattled off 20 clubs who could just as easily be functioning in league 2, and some even in league 1. With only 2 up, but 4 down, and with the level of existing competition and others chomping at the bit to get out of the regions, the National League is brutal. Far from tin pot imho.
Strangely, I prefer us being competitive in this division than being mid-table L2. I'd bite your hand off for League 1 relegation dogfights everyday though.

Woking? Never been a league club

He's not doing do well at League 1 Ipswich, and there could soon well be a vacancy there. Oh, nearly forgot that James Rowe hails from Ipswich.
