Add empty stadia and then bash the whole thing to smithereens by implementing VAR in the worst possible way and the whole thing dies... MOTD not even worth watching now, as a club funded by an Arab state run away with the league.
Apparently the future TV deals will be worth less as younger generations are not so keen on sitting down for 90 minutes plus, watching a whole match. VAR has made live games almost unwatchable anyhow. Perhaps a period of deflation instead of continued financial growth might re-introduce some realism.

Maybe there's hope for football if people do stop watching it, because it's those who want to watch five matches in a weekend and pay for the privilege who're contributing to the farce the upper leagues have become, not to mention the obscene money being paid to average players. If you don't have an emotional attachment to a team, then a terrible lot of the football is just boring.
And despite the disaster that VAR undoubtedly is, can you imagine going back to relying on the referee? The nit-picking and whingeing would be far worse than before now that the 'analysts' have really got into their stride.
The reason it's such a mess is because there's so much money at stake that human error isn't acceptable any more, and there's so much money because so many people are paying the TV moguls.
Which is where I came in.

Yep. I've evolved into watching MOTD2 on iPlayer sometime on a Monday.
Your observation that droves of supporters are turning off must be known to Lineker and Co. but there is never any debate about it.

At this moment it must be difficult for them to split the combined effects upon viewing numbers of covid/empty stadia from that of VAR, and the longer term effects of differing viewing habits developing, especially among younger generations.
What should eventually become clear when crowds come back is that the golden goose is getting sick. TV deals will be worth less. If the likes of Liverpool and Man U get their way and an even bigger piece of the pie, making the league less competitive, the goose will be terminal.

That's a surprise - they debate every other blasted thing to screaming pitch.
