I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some bids for Maguire in the summer. Ball playing centre back, can run with the ball, some weaknesses, but a reasonably high profile for a non league player (he’s Harry’s brother as every away commentator tells us). And still young for a defender.

I've mentioned previously that he is being played as a sort of overlapping centre back. He seems to have licence to get forward when the opportunity arises and he advances deep into the opposition's half with a frequency. In fact, deeper than some of our midfield players. It's a role which suits him and suits the system but how many other clubs would allow him that freedom?

Obviously, to allow him to do this JR has created a system which covers him defensively when he forages forward. Other players have to cover and know their role when they have to do so and it's credit to those players that, rarely, do we get caught out when an attack breaks down with Loz in or around the penalty area we were attacking.

Well analysed, agreed. Loz has been a revelation since Rowe's came in.

Personally, I think there is better to come from him. He is getting more confident each game he is playing in under Rowe. OK his first touch can be a bit wayward as can some of his passing but he doesn't let it phase him and he doesn't shy away from his new found freedom to push forward.

Not afraid to put his foot in either.

I'm probably a minority of one as usual, but I'd play Buchanan before either of them. He was good in a poor side - in this one he'd be brilliant. Lack of height might be the crunch, though.

I was a Buchanan fan too, but I thought Whittle was excellent last night.

And age as well 33 does not seem to fit the profile the manager requires for his defenders/midfield players who are required to be all over the pitch at a given tempo during a match

Tyson at 38 seems to be the exception to that rule as a forward but he might be used more as an impact sub as he was to good effect last night

Manchester City (with the £50M John Stones) and Manchester United (with the £80M Harry Maguire)?

Of course a player who has adapted to the Rowe era and is a valuable member of the squad as the contract extension shows

Maguire has always played that system it’s just the rest of the team didn’t and we had no cover

Or, if that's the case, previous managers couldn't work out how to instruct the players to incorporate it.

Well we nearly got a sensible discussion out of you, but I see the urge to do a wind-up proved too strong.
Perhaps another time.
