Slightly surprised he feels the need to add to that position really.

I was hoping it was going to be Ceesay and/or Kosylo from Atly. Someone who can run with the ball.

I knew this lad was training with us so it’s not come out of the blue. I suppose Rowe is working on the basis that injuries and suspensions will mean he will be needed at some point, with Gunning’s preferred position seemingly the sitting man when playing away.

^ This infers linked to Boden deal, has he gone their permanently too then?

I've not read it that way, but it does seem the they were part of the same 'deal'.

As an aside, I assume we still have at least 3 players currently on Furlough?

Probably highlights the faith he has in Yarney to rotate into the squad to give one of the starting 3 a rest.

Can't think who the other CB's we have are (Sharman?) but wouldn't be suprised to see one of them leave or be placed on furlough!

At present, I see Yarney as cover for Carline at RWB as I don't see that we have anyone else in the squad who can cover that position. At a push both of them can play RCB but I don't think that is where JR sees them on a regular basis.

Of our other CBs, Hollis, Maguire and Gunning are left sided, Evans is right sided with only Sharman as right sided cover but I don't think JR considers him ready yet especially if we get into a play-off position and the pressure which comes with that towards the end of a season.

So, I am assuming Kerr is right sided and, as such, could be good insurance for that position.

Potentially but we've utilised Whittle there ahead of him too. I don't mind Yarney though if his rumoured wages are correct he will be off the books come the summer.

Kerr is right sided from what my Hartlepool supporting mate says so this all makes sense to me.

As for the 3 on furlough - Butterfield, J.Smith and Buchannan do we think? I've never seen any of this confirmed but press speculation.

We're going to have a big squad when our scout starts drip feeding his players through.
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Never the twain shall meet.

I understand Jon Smith was going through his paces at Meadow Lane before the County game so I don't think he is on furlough.

However, I would suggest Coddington is.

Didn't think we had played Whittle much at RWB and certainly not started him there. In the current set up it appears to be between Whittle and Taylor for the LWB position.

The original 4 were confirmed as being Boden, Coddington, Butterfield & Buchanan

Where is the money coming from? The chairman said not so long ago we’ve already had to dip into next seasons ST - have even sold a single ST for next season?

Yes. Reported last night £110K from season ticket sales so far.

Agreed, that is exactly what we need and the one type of player this squad lacks... one of those clever/nippy type players that can carry the ball, gain territory in opposition area, win free kicks/penalties and maybe even add a goal/assist in there along the way!

Those type of players are often the ones that can turn a stalemate into 3 points, and you always seem to find that most of the top sides in this division tend to have these type of players too (Boldewijn/Roberts at Notts, Beautyman at Sutton, Whitfield at Torquay etc...) which tells you something...

Big plus that we’ve got Whelan back tonight who’s one of them clever players that plays in the half spaces, but just imagine if he had someone next to him that was able to carry the ball in the team, attracting opposition players to them... with the knock on effect being that more space would then be opened up on the pitch for a player with the quality Whelan possesses!

Ex Birmingham as a youth which is where I guess Rowe knows him from
Fraser Kerr - Wikipedia

He was in Birmingham reserves when Rowe managed the U16 so he will know him from there

An excellent debut from the lad tonight. He slotted in well next to Gunning and deserves to keep his place against Yeovil.

Perhaps Evans is looking elsewhere after the enquiry in Jan?

Maybe Hollis isn't looking to sign either?

evans could have played his last game for us, on big wages and his lump it up front style doesn't suit how we play, hollis has been fantastic this season so hard to drop him , who would be a manager?

Agree, Hollis has been great, I think his vocal coaching of Maguire has been key in matches too. Who'd have though this back in Sept when the whole squad looked like it should have been released.

Now we actually have some depth

Yep, 3 excellent debuts if we include Mad Gav (Kevin Beattie) Gunning at CH.

Smith fascinated me. Big, fit lad who can drive forward with the ball in midfield and pass. What the bluddddy hell is he doing in a part time league?

And Smith the goalie. It will surprise me greatly if he is rotated.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

I'd heard Kerr had come up to train with us and take a look at him as part of Boden going down there but we announced the Boden deal specifically mentioning it was a loan move - https://chesterfield...moves-on-loan-3

We are still to play Torquay in what could be a really crucial game. If Boden is classified as "on loan" does that mean he will be "cup tied" if he still belongs to his parent club. I don't know how it works in this League.

I think Smith the midfielder looks very good. McCourt been off it since the isolation period, how good is it to have a replacement of that quality? Oh how I miss Robbie Weir, Jonathan Smith and Sam Wedgebury
