This club is no longer the dead duck’s carcass , ongoing bin fire that Cashley and Allen reduced it to. We now have the potential to match Rowe’s ambitions for a while and for him to take us forward, hopefully getting a promotion (or even two) onto his CV.

I’d be happy with being a consistent League 1 team, like under Duncan in the 90s. Top 10 finishes and flirting with the playoffs would do me fine. Think we are more than capable of that with Rowe and the board.

To go up to the Championship you are looking at major long term investment.

I'd take 1 season .. aka Wycombe, who have done it on a budget
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

That’s exactly where I want to be, Mid table league 1. I’ve said before that I think league 2 is only slightly less dreadful than the national league is. I don’t know if we’ll ever make the championship but realistically is there really that much difference between us and Rotherham? They’re over achieving I guess.

I'd take league football in any shape or form. Mid table league 2 would do.

What is the point in us bothering about having a club if all that you settle for is a mid table finish in league one?
It's like West Ham supporters saying that they'd settle for a European place rather than win the FA cup.
We love watching the game because we want to see our team win, we get a release of emotions when that ball hits the back of the net. It's something we all crave for and whilst most things in our life come & go our club stays with us. So to say that we want our team to concede goals and lose matches aswell as winning some is bemusing to me. If we settle for mid table obscurity regardless of what division it is then what's the point in bothering? Wouldn't you rather see us win more games in a lower league which leads to us gaining promotions rather than being a lack of ambition club?
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Of course you want your team to win every game, but let be real - we've had 5 years of absolute heart ache. Getting back into the FL is not easy and if we achieve that then fantastic. A stable football league club from there on in that is financially solid and supports its community would be enough for me, whether that is in League 2 or League 1.

Or is it Tony Stewart apparently the turnover of his electrical business would not seem to sustain the investment required to bankroll Rotherham?

As fans we will always want that little bit more. It's human nature. We look for the future that we had in the past while we are at our lowest ebb. If/when we get back to league 1, we'll want championship football. Don't worry about that.
Here we go again!

Seems pretty clear games are being played, here.

And I don't mean ninety minute ones.

Rowe's been a revelation, he truly has. He's turned us from relegation to play off candidates in the space of four short months.

But no one's bigger than the Club.

It's been a two way thing too, with the Trust making a massive investment in both CFC and by association the Manager's future. Let's remember Town's gamble has also given him a far, far larger platform than Gloucester - so to spurn all that so quickly?

Football folk have long memories.

Then could JR so easily replicate what's happening on Sheff Road elsewhere? He clearly has a knowledge of non league; yet has he equal scope of the EFL at this point? Okay, he's taken several young players up a level; however two levels? Three, perhaps?

His time will come. Though it must be based on firm foundations.

If we took anything positive from Allen's scandal ridden reign it's Chesterfield FC has the potential to compete with most in the lower leagues. Stadium, fanbase and facilities. Infact James Rowe's already had a glimpse of that with the money raising thing. Hopefully he'll get a much greater picture in the not too distant future.

So the current boss can achieve everything he needs in his short to medium term future at this club. He can even become part of it's history. Another Cox, Duncan or Cook. On the other hand he might become just another footballing Icarus...

He’s done a brilliant job so far and would want him to stay if possible.

Like the way he’s identified the sports science element off the club etc.

I don’t think he’s. Going anywhere and think he’s very grateful to be involved in the pro game.

I wouldn’t want a coffee with him but I def want him at the helm for a while

It's important to note that the article claims that JR is to be offered a better deal, not that he has asked for one.

I think this is simple Risk Management. The risk of CFC not getting adequate compensation for JR is increasing because of what it says in his original contract. The contract therefore has to be changed and that comes at a cost.

The fact that this has been leaked is unsavoury, but the key point is that IMO the Board has recognised already that JR's value has risen and is implementing due diligence. And what a pleasant change that makes!!

You could be right but the leak doesn't appear to have come from the clubs end and smacks of testing the market to drive up the terms of the offer.

If we get a highly successful manager he'll be gone within a couple of seasons, probably less: same applies to players.

No point worrying about it - just enjoy the ride and hope the next bloke is even better.
