Can someone explain why the DA debt (presumably) was transferred to the Trust? Why didn’t DA just write it off

I'm not a tax accountant, but as explained at the AGM, there was a concern about possible tax implications because if the debt was written off then that would represent a gain for the club which might trigger a tax charge (notwithstanding the club's substantial accumulated tax losses that are being carried forward). They would need further advice on this in the future.

Written response by the Board to that very question:
The transfer of the shares from Mr Allen did include the remaining debt at full value (c£10.65m). The Trust is not asking for any repayments or interest and has no expectations of either. In the next financial year, when there is some stability, the Trust expects to check tax implications and take the views of the Charities Commission and Charity Bank, with whom the Trust has a mortgage, about resolving this issue. The Trust spoke about the club being debt free as there is no intention to use this debt.

So, notwithstanding the fact that it hadn't been mentioned, are you happy that this is in fact a sensible move?

Also, can CFC state that is debt free when Carson told people that Allen is due more cash in the future, in certain circumstances?

It has to be a sensible move if there is a danger the write off could trigger a taxable event, thus losing all the tax losses available. I’m sure it will sorted before the next year end.
If Allen is due more cash in the future, depending on events, then who has to pay the cash? Presumably it would be the Trust, so the club wouldn’t owe Allen anything. But clearly the club isn’t debt free as it owes DCC and CBC.

Nice touch from the Trust, ta.

Looks like we'll have a 3G asset within 12 months. If it includes changing rooms, car parking, and a cafe it could be a big earner.

Any ideas where we're looking at building it? Houses just seem to go on any land that becomes available atm. Can only think we'll have some sort of deal/agreement with the council to have an area of stand/Highfield park or similar.
Here we go again!

I presume if it’s from scratch and “state of the art” then all the changing facilities will be on site so no need for it to be near the ground so that gives us plenty of scope to look for land to use. If it went on highfield park then it’s going to take most of it up once you have the building, parking, pitches etc. In turn that’s taking away numerous pitches used by Sunday teams etc.

Won't it simply be one non wearing full size pitch? No need for pitches plural.

I’d be surprised if it was just that. Bearing in mind we’ve had the likes of Denton struggling from playing on a 4g pitch this season is he surprised if we trained on one full time. I would suspect they are looking at grass pitches as well.

Sorry, I think I've confused things.

I hadn't thought of the 3GL being the first phase of an official state of the art complex on one site. More of a community asset that CFC would use if it wanted to, alongside Hasland until the complex is finished.

Maybe I’m thinking way above what they mean by “state of the art training facility” but I would take that as more than a 4g pitch that also gets hired out.

I wonder if the Trust will be the ones to create the facilities in their name and thereby they could apply for the monies announced today in the budget for the "£25m to build 700 football pitches”

Harland is poor in many respects, middle of housing estate and could result in complaints/objections. No car parking facilities. Electric mains ?

Stand Road park would be ideal if it could be developed imo
God I hate this league.

Think they’ve said they can fund a lot through grants...sure that was mentioned on this thread already.

There used to be a decent pitch at Temple Normanton close to where the old NCB Training Centre was. I believe it was a site under consideration at one time for our new ground. It's in a good location for our players that travel in via the M1 too,

Yep an artificial pitch can be bought with 75% of the costs from grants - I’ve done 3. Applications in last 5 years which was a very simple process.

Could be a massive be game changer for the club going forward.
If the whole project was for a new taining ground ‘complex’ they hopefully will invest for the future and will attract players etc (in my experience players are far more liable to join a club if training facilities are decent over actual stadium (for obvious reasons)

Rowe seems up to speed on sports science so would expect full S&C suite and rehab etc (I may contact to see if they need a consultant to oversee it ;-)

Not "may",mate, but "do". If you don't ask you don't get and if the answer is "no thanks" you are in no worse a position than if you didn't ask in the first place.
