Mandeville's pass (it was clearly an attempted pass if you watch it back) has the intent to assist regardless of the deflection, King has a shot but it's blocked on the line and tapped in by Dobra, that doesn't constitute an assist imo. Similarly I wouldn't give Banks the assist for Berry's opener against Dagenham. Others could disagree and I'm sure there are inconsistencies in how I do it but that's the way I'm doing it

No problem, mate, the “whys” and “wherefores” have to stop somewhere and have a level of consistency about them. If only referees at any level really!!!

Yep it shows the folly of assists I suppose, they can be taken with a pinch of salt. King can do a magic piece of skill and not get anything as Dobs taps it in, whereas somebody laying Banks off for a 30 yard screamer gets an assist.

I did actually consider adding what you described (they're usually referred to as Key Passes) but thought that would be going too far but would be interested to know that info so may do it next season... we'll see.
