Doesn't do much for those who can't afford private in the queue for the same illness. Sacrifice the poor for the rich

Well the majority of people who have private health care it is provided by the company they work for and they are paying tax on it - which goes to the government to fund other things (along with the extra tax they are likely paying if they are earning above average) - and of course that tax pays for stuff for those that cant pay for themselves. Its how the world works.....

depends how much income the NHS gets from billing Private. At what point does the money help reduce NHS customer queues?

Do you think that the people who keep being pushed down the queue really give a damn? I know what you are saying, doesn't make it right though. I once got to the room outside the operating theatre, had my pre med, operation cancelled and sent home to make way for a private patient. Had to wait another month. Hey ho I'm not rich just a pleb

I met Darren Brown on a number of occasions. A man who could look you in the eye and lie and lie and lie again. To the point I became convinced it was pathological, an mental illness that left him actually believing his own words.

Well surely this cretin is no different: https://www.msn.com/...ocid=spartanntp

Quite staggering. In his election campaign you could actually see why he would potentially do well in the way he came across and seemingly said what people wanted to hear but he really is a melt of the highest proportion when he's coming out the comments like this.

I'd say the Americans wouldnt be fooled again, but I think they really are that thick that I wouldn't put it past them.

Be careful what you say. Or the PC brigade will deem you a xenophobe.

That depends on wether you statements are factually correct or not, or wether the standards are evenly applied?

If so it'll be because his opponent is so weak.

Trump v Biden = Johnson v Corbyn.

That’s what Trump does, attempts to bury a bad news story with something outrageous that appeals to his base, just to grab the headlines then partially rows back in confusion. The bad news story this time was the memos sent warning him of a global pandemic back in January.

As far as election chances go, the incumbent normally wins. He’s got a sizeable minority base who’ll let him get away with anything. It will probably be tight again because their state system where rural states with tiny populations have the same clout as states with huge populations. If he wins, he’ll probably lose the popular vote. If loses it could be down to the economy tanking and not his outrageous actions.

Not sure that is a good analogy. Biden is certainly too old though

A constructive thought.

Next weekend is Easter. The weather people have given it warm and pleasant. Folk already stir crazy will understandably be itching to get out.

So why don't the streaming services offer everyone a free sample? Three or four days of unrestricted access to do their bit in mitigating the lockdown?

A gesture by billion dollar businesses who, I'm sure, have seen subscriptions spiral.

Don't do 'Facebook' or owt but someone really ought to get it going...

I doubt there would be a significant number of people who would take up a free trial that aren't already signed up to at least one streaming service already.

Absolutely get that but two things - one, alot of the people with private health care are not rich, I first had it when I earned £14k a year; and two, I suspect there are more ops that get undertaken as a result of the tax take from people with PHI rather than are pushed back at very short notice due to a private patient.....

Didn't your employer contribute along with yourself to something akin to 'Westfields' health scheme?
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Westfield was never a private health scheme. When I was in it it it paid you direct for nights in hospital, paid towards dental care, opticians etc. Definitely not private health care. Plus I paid it myself. More akin to an insurance scheme. However it may have changed since I was in in it

Don’t a high proportion of decent jobs give the option of private health care nowadays , company car and private health care?

Not company cars any more (although they may have a resurgence with 0% Benefit in Kind if electric with sufficient range this tax year) but PHI is available to everyone who has an M grade at my place - so the vast majority at HO and management at hotels. Both daughter in HR and son in law (also in HR) get it too through work.

So as I say, not just the preserve of the rich...
