Interesting interview with former health secretary Alan Johnson on 'Sophie Ridge' this morning.

He said his government had contingency plans for a list of international emergencies - with the pandemic facts and figures predicted WOULD inevitably appear top of that list.

Measures worked upon with his opposite number and discussed in Parliament. So maybe 'Hansard' can confirm as much.

Which is probably why he was so critical of the current crew's response. Apparently Cameron dumped the department created to confront such a crisis early into his premiership (yeah, who needs all that red tape and bureaucracy...) whilst it's now well documented that successive regimes ignored 'Exercise Cygnus': https://www.telegrap...ied-government/

https://www.newstate...-event-pandemic

Just as everyone knows we've had ten years of underfunding and undermining within the NHS.

Let's repeat that even top quality health services in Italy and elsewhere have been completely overwhelmed. And not a single one in the world has the capacity to comfortably cope with Covid.

However it's becoming increasingly clear Johnson's namesake and his ministers have proven incompetently - or worse even ideologically - incapable of dealing with deficiencies for which they had more than enough warning...

I'm a bit confused with story but it appears to have happended Thailand which suggest they were made in China for 3M hence the references to piracy.

Looks like those with the biggest pockets will corner the market

Trump is going to get a lot 'help' from the Chinese medical equipment along with a lot of other countries. They'll be a political and economic cost but he better hope the virus doesn't hit China with second wave

I’m wondering how, with over 6,000,000 the U.S health insurance system is going to treat these people.

Most get health insurance through schemes at work so if they are now unemployed who pay for their treatment?

You may we’ll see a huge amount of deaths in the U.S.A. I wonder how many now wish they had progressed with Obama care, instead of moaning that tax dollars went to treat sick that didn’t pay into the system.
A new hope.

Didn’t the Chinese say it was a virus made in the U.S.A, and then Italy, depending on who was easier to blame at the time.
A new hope.

There's an old saying about truth being the first casualty of war.

These days it's the first casualty of everything from a football club f**k up to a worldwide pandemic...

Not sure of the exact timeline but Chinese claims that it was planted in Wuhan came at roughly the same time has the Trump administration called it the Chinese or Wuhan Virus, so clearly mutual retaliation one way of the other.

As far as Italy is concerned, that was definitely Trump; accusing the Europeans (and in particular the Italians) of not taking it seriously enough. Now correct me if I’m wrong but Italy was the first country to operate a blanket ban on flights.

But the point I was making (which you ignored) is that the west (ironically) will be beholding both financially and politically (sadly) to China and all your previous bluster about China’s misdeeds being held to account is somewhat optimistic

Well at least they have been shamed into changing their mind and after all they are owned by Johnny Foreigner so what do you expect

Now this is the story we really need to concentrate on

Tory ministers companies capitalising on Coronavirus, I have supplied a link from Mail, much better articles available in the respectable press

Financial chaos, that what Mogg’s company profiteers from

I’d expect nothing less from that smug Gimp. He won’t be on his own either. Investment bankers the world over will be licking their lips and salivating at the chance to pick over the bones of this.

Scotland’s Chief medical officer also caught out visiting second home for the weekend while telling other people to stay home. Rank hypocrisy.

I'm pretty sure they called it the Japanese Virus first off not long after it started coming to world attention.

Fair play to the Mail for publicising it.

So much for criticism being confined to lefties politicising the crisis, too.

And exactly what we've come to expect from the patronising popinjay who was so strongly behind Brexit whilst opening offices in Dublin (when will people admit he and his ilk blatantly lied to them?!).

Perhaps he'll at some point blame Covid sufferers for their own infections in the same way he blamed Grenfell victims...
