Ebola is native to fruit bats. Eating such bush meat if not properly cooked, or slaughtered in conditions which allow bodily fluids from the animal to contaminate other food sources, open cuts etc allows the virus to jump species.

So yes, your absolutely right, certain practices in parts of Africa did indeed “give us” Ebola.

I think we could go around the world and see what we'd consider medieval conditions. Then should we ostracise African countries 'giving us' such as Ebola? Should Britain have suffered repercussions over CJD? The US communities where Aids was so prevalent?

And where do we draw the line; the Saudi Arabia that 'gives us' Muslim fundamentalism? That murders journalists and gay people? That treats women as third class citizens? In how much blood are they drenched whilst western nations queue to exchange oil for arms? Perhaps the Brazil tearing down rainforests as it's president parrots Trump's pandemic prattle? The fascist Hungarian government courted by both Tory and UKIP members of the European Parliament? The Isreal sickeningly subjugating Palastenians?

An America intent on exporting meats produced in ways well below those we've long deemed acceptable?

Let's also remember that both the current government and it's predecessors have been happy to embrace Chinese deals. Just as they still - STILL - allow untested arrivals from all over the globe.

Absolutely nothing wrong or racist in condemning countries for disgusting practices. Whether they're faeces spattered slaughterhouses, barbaric religious regimes or, as our friend 'Dim View' references, encouraging gun ownership despite hundreds of thousands gunned down annually.

However let's be equally critical of politicians who've created an environment where Covid's flourished - by underfunding or even dismantling infrastructure and denying it's threat.

Very true but look at the reactions of countries after the event, effectively taking measures to ensure that it will not happen again whereas evidence in papers today that wet markets are again up and running in parts of China and the security forces more interested in stopping photos being taken than closing the markets down!

It's not the various government recriminations that worries me but that of people (millions?) who were not racist but will now be deemed so. And I don't mean by not ordering a weekly no.46 with noodles.

Don’t be too worried. People won’t be called racist for criticising culture and if they are then the accuser is misunderstanding what racism is.

But my point was/is the reaction, Rob.

Again, there're countless examples of behaviour we'd condemn around the world. So all I'm saying is let's not focus on some whilst turning a blind eye to others - especially closer to home.

Of course his response has been pathetic, but I’d just like to see those that only seem to use this as political ammo to attack Trump also vent their fury at China which they see extremely reluctant to do

China should become a pariah country over this, the lies, the misinformation, Huawei should be the first thing to go.

The markets have reopened

A smorgasbord of dogs being boiled alive, bats served on sticks like lollipops, kittens slaughtered, rats fried and giant snakes carved up for human consumption, with the blood splattering everywhere.

There are no hygiene standards. Cross-contamination is rampant. The animal cruelty is off the scale.

Bears, tigers, wolf cubs, crocodiles, hedgehogs and turtles are not spared in this notorious wildlife food trade, either.

Now the despicable wet markets used by some Chinese people - markets already responsible for the Sars outbreak in 2002 - have finally brought the world to its knees.

But don’t criticise them cos it’s racist, I think you’re right in one respect, I have a serious misunderstanding of what racism is these days

Or we could get on with our own lives and stop blaming people and causing hatred?

I think this is too large a World problem for blame not to be apportioned, at least as evidence is still blatantly obvious that they still haven't stopped the abhorrent practices that are currently bringing the World too its knees..Something as to be done to stop this happening again and if that means pointing the finger and attempting to force action then so be it.

I guess it's the same characters opposing the Huawei deal - though to a person who quoted China as one of the partners with whom a post Brexit Britain could do deals - shouting loudest about this.

Though of course not a whisper of the underfunding that left the NHS with fewer ICU beds and staff per capita than many of it's contemporaries abroad.

Probably because they've spent ten years endorsing such cuts.

Or to condemn Trump's denials, duplicity and deceit, either.

So I'm with our friend 'Search and Destroy' - ALL those peddling 'lies and misinformation' should be held to account.

Oh, and PS: hopefully there'll be the same condemnation of these tories politicising the pandemic as there's been of others...

China is rightly being condemned for its practices and should be a pariah of a country. Strange then Germany is so readily accepted after killing at least 12 million innocent people. China's covid 19 was not premeditated, Germany's murder was

Can we stay current for this thread fish?

Political and economic pressure must be applied to this regime. They are little better than North Korea, but with bigger factories and more trade

Most Germans alive today hate their history and the things that were done in their name. You need to distinguish between an individual and a group to which they beloonged who may be nothing like them deep down.

Some of my best friends are German as a result of working for a German company. One of my current best friends is a British born Chinese. Great people.

All Germans?

Just those who remain alive from the 30s and 40s?

What about Austrians, the fuhrer was Austrian wasn’t he.

Younger Germans who welcomed the refugee columns?

What about Croats? They had death camps in the 40s. Do you hate them too?

You often talk sense, but then spoil it with silly rants like this.

Not premeditated? Are you saying they didn't know this practice was dangerous?

Also..

World War II Germany

Further information: German reparations for World War II

During World War II, Nazi Germany extracted payments from occupied countries and compelled loans. In addition, countries were obliged to provide resources, and forced labour.

After World War II, according to the Potsdam conference held between July 17 and August 2, 1945, Germany was to pay the Allies US$23 billion mainly in machinery and manufacturing plants. Reparations to the Soviet Union stopped in 1953. Large numbers of factories were dismantled or destroyed.[citation needed] Dismantling in the west stopped in 1950.

Beginning before the German surrender and continuing for the next two years, the United States pursued a vigorous program of harvesting all technological and scientific know-how as well as all patents and many leading scientists in Germany (known as Operation Paperclip). Historian John Gimbel, in his book Science Technology and Reparations: Exploitation and Plunder in Postwar Germany, states that the "intellectual reparations" taken by the U.S. and the UK amounted to close to $10 billion.[8] German reparations were partly to be in the form of forced labor. By 1947, approximately 4,000,000 German POWs and civilians were used as forced labor (under various headings, such as "reparations labor" or "enforced labor") in the Soviet Union, France, the UK[citation needed], Belgium and in Germany in U.S run "Military Labor Service Units".
