I knew keeping my huge box of odd socks would pay dividends one day. Big old sports socks will be the first to be used!

Although I don’t see why it’s hypocritical to point out faults with more than one bloc/nation/union at the same time. Saying x nation is bad doesn’t mean y and z nations automatically become good.

My reference to hypocrisy was aimed at those who've spent years vilifying the EU whilst quoting places like the China you quite rightly condemn (some of whom are now getting their nickers in a twist over Huawei, by the way), the Brazil trashing it's rainforests, the Saudi Arabia who treat women as second class citizens whilst imprisoning and even executing gays and a US pursuing an increasingly 'America first' agenda as preferable trading partners.

But anyway, that's all for another day. More appt is this: https://www.theguard...rus-southampton

Or perhaps this: https://www.msn.com/...ocid=spartanntp

I guess when faced with a virus that can't be defeated with lies or racism or hypocrisy those first suffering it are the next best target. Terrific piece on the James O'Brien show today too, a 'then and now' style montage of Fox presenters who, barely a week ago, parroted Trumpian denials and derision and 'It's only flu/hysterical critics' quotes that've now become grave acknowledgements.

In total contrast my respect for the medical chiefs giving today's press conference spiralled upwards when they had the honesty to admit they'd probably got it wrong prior to this week. Apparently they'd hoped the outbreak in China would be largely contained with only a handful of lesser flare ups elsewhere. Gotta admire their candour, but unfortunately the Boris Johnson who's stood between them at every other presser wasn't there to demonstrate collective responsibility...

Come on FFS...the Chinese authorities have allowed these practices to exist until their very recent abolition. The people of China aren't to blame for this virus to exist; it is the fault of the Chinese authorities that have allowed the possibility for it to exist...end of. People are being racist towards an entire population, which is nothing short of utter idiocy.

True. The virus has always existed in bats where it wasn't a problem. The Chinese regime created the environment allowing it to jump the species barrier. Just like the British government allowed the practices which led to vCJD. Or should the entire British population be blamed? As the Chinese seem to be

CJD resulted from the slackening of feed regulations. Meaning some livestock were essentially being fed their own. Damned red tape, eh?

As for dubbing CV19 the 'Chinese virus' it's just Trump playing to his fanbase, again. Offering an easy target to distract from his own crass incompetence. Dismissing the pandemic as some sort of 'fake news' and politicising it.

I've an alternative to his mindless racism, though. I say we focus on those selfish, arrogant, utterly pig ignorant vermin stripping supermarket shelves through sheer greed. Who're grabbing anything and everything they can needed or not. Who're still - STILL - larging it up in pubs and public places (yeah Stanley Johnson, that means you). Who're profiteering and creating a black market in basic goods.

Infact maybe we should call this the 'vulnerable virus', because whilst some carry on with an 'I've nowt to worry about' attitude it'll be the vulnerable paying the ultimate price...

A warning for everyone locally not to be complacent about this, my cousin was admitted to the Royal yesterday after being diagnosed with C-19. She's 61 with underlying conditions and I believe admitted because of this after 10 days self isolating. She well enough to be using Facebook this morning to pass on the news to friends & family.

Thanks, hopefully now she's been diagnosed she'll be okay

Her symptoms were quite severe as she was bed ridden whilst in self isolation.

This virus is definitely bringing out the best in people. I've witnessed some mind blowing community spirit locally and nationally. Some people are really trying to pull the community together in these difficult times.

Alas there is a flip side. Having been down to the shop I witnessed behavior that I could only describe as the most selfish I have ever seen. I know a young lady who is struggling to get formula to feed her baby because people are buying in bulk. I understand that people think they need to protect their children but there are no shortages, the shop orders more but there is a delay of what, 24 hours to restock?

Yesterday I drove a detour home from work, not my normal route and I passed a farmer at the side of the road selling bags of potatoes for £20.

You ask around and no one claims to be buying bulk and hoarding absolutely no one stands up and says "I am hoarding food". So my question is, where are all these people from? Who are these people stripping the shelves?

Well if you are reading this and you are one of them I have a message for you from me: You are the lowest excuse for a human being, you are selfish, arrogant, greedy and an air thief. You deserve nothing in life. To knowingly watch people suffer while you sit on you pile of food and bog rolls makes you in-human. If my words trouble you then tough, I would bask in the opportunity to say it to your face.

A friend of mine, his daughter works in one of our big stores, she selects food for delivery to vulnerable people in OUR TOWN! She is working all hours god sends but has to suffer abuse all the time because there is no food on the shelves.

I was also told some old folk are using the "Golden Hour" everyday to get first dibs on food to pass on to family.

Is there anyone out there who will admit to hoarding food?

I have just watched the video of a nurse who has completed a 48 shift looking after victims of C-19. She called in the shop on her way home to find it empty... Worth a watch

I've got no bog rolls now. I'll live. Got wipes and a shower and maybe a pack of moisties in the airing cupboard so I'm not gonna cry about it. Worse than those shamelessly hoarding are those who claim to decry that behaviour yet freely admit to getting extra 'just in case' and being as much a part of the problem as the others.

Work-wise my employer, a bank, is still expecting us to meet with customers if they need us. The only real concession is a ban on off-site meetings which is how we usually operate.

Given we can offer all of the important assurance and assistance needed over the phone or via online channels (loans, overdrafts, card limit increases, mortgage holidays etc) I'm not sure what would be important enough to require face to face support. For me banks should reduce opening hours to a bare minimum, perhaps 2-3 hours on alternate days and be purely there for vulnerable customers and to support businesses with their cash needs. Anything else can wait.

Are the 3 month mortgage ‘holiday’ widespread now?

Do they just tag onto the end of the mortgage (or add more to monthly payments after 3 months?
