If tapped into in the right way those fans would come back and support a reborn Chesterfield FC.
Communication with the fans would be key:
- get someone sorting out the CRM at Town - we know on the ticket database who’s attending, who’s not attending etc. Talk to them, advertise the matches via Email. Thank the ones who have stuck around, talk to the ones who haven’t in a difference way
- billboard round the town, get the football club back in people’s minds
- get the local press drumming up support over the radio, social media, papers etc
- drop the prices initially, try and pack the ground, get bums on seats, get people spending on the concourses, in the shop etc. I’d do anything do get people back for that first time, once they’re in we’ve done half the job, especially if people haven’t been for years.
- make match days fun, work with the PA to get the fans fired up, get deals on booze and food on the concourses, Chuck everyone a free scarf on entry, anything!
- get in the schools, fill the ground with kids, don’t give them an option to go up the road to Sheffield, Derby or anywhere else. A prolonged period of this would help build a future fan base of kids were probably at risk of losing.
- set a target, challenge to the fans. 4000 STs and £200/£250 a pop and push this through all of the above. The fans would return and it would become a commercial success.
There’s so much opportunity that would get the fans on board. The diehards would return without much of the above I would hope, but the floating support, the casual fan etc are the ones that we need to talk too as well.
It may take time but I do believe a bit of creative marketing and PR would get people back in a post Allen, Carson, Bean world.

New people that actually give a damn/are at least moderately competent need look no further than DCCC for how to keep in touch with punters.
I usually only buy tickets for Us V Yorks in the Park but receive messages advertising tickets, offers and events throughout the year.
If they can do it why can't a CFC with a supposed IT bloke on the effin Board?

I get a half assed email sporadically from CFC which is literally pretty much a screenshot from the website page.
What’s this IT fella doing?
Ironically it’s still got the EFL logo on the bottom.
No effort and it’s obvious. Always annoyed me, and never more so than now.
A lot of great posts on this thread, thank you Phil for starting it and it’s good to have you post again.

I bought a ticket over the phone for my grandad to go watch Wolves 8 years ago and still I get newsletters, very good as well. I know they are bigger but this was before the FOSUN money arrived. Tells you all you need to know and has links for just about any issue you might need help for.
It looks professional and was I wolves fan would make life quite easy.

A proper set-up with genuine Town fans on the board or at least have an interest in engaging customer dynamics and the ability to work out what is good for a business and what is not in this modern football era.
I would buy anything that had Chesterfield Football Club emblazened on it if CFC 2001 Ltd was ran properly.
What we have lacked in recent years is an active supporters club who could legitimately express their disappointment, we've been too passive as supporters for too long.

The reason I’m posting again is simple, the club I love and have volunteered at for 42 years is dying. That’s not a position that I ever envisaged when we were being entertained by Paul Cook’s superb side, and whilst at that time I could see that we were more likely to have bad times rather than great times, a second straight relegation battle in the National League did not feature in any of my nightmare scenarios back then.
Our club (that’s OUR CLUB) has been run into the ground and trust in the governance and management capabilities is at an all-time low and continues to fall week by week. Crowds have plummeted after four years of declining results and many decisions, on and off the field, have baffled the majority.
That said, all I want to do at this stage is ask a question, aimed at fans that have been loyal regulars but now don’t come as often or even not at all.
The question is, if the club were to be wholly taken over by a consortium of genuine local supporters, would you consider returning on a more regular basis even if the immediate prospect of a significant upturn in results was not forthcoming?
If your answer is ‘yes’ the response is easy, but please add any comments that could help potential bidders formulate their plans.
If your answer is ‘no’ please say what would need to be implemented to encourage you to return.
I’m asking the question in good faith to potentially help out real and genuine interest in the club’s future wellbeing to enable pragmatic decisions and predictions to be made by a number of people who genuinely have an interest in getting the club back on track and returning to being a vital and respected part of the community once more.
Thanks in advance for any input, it will all be useful.
I’m off to AFC Fylde now (make a turn at Preston, seems ominous), I fear there will not be many there in Blue!!
Phil
Hi Phil
I am another supporter who was duped into renewing and was only saying after the Eastleigh game that I won't be renewing next year. This club is toxic and desperately needs to change. I used to spend hundreds of pounds every year in the club shop and on the concourse, but not anymore. I would welcome a change at the club but like everyone else has said it needs to be the whole board and CEO. If that was to happen I would start to spend at the club again as would many other fans.
Good luck
